Good Morning All,

Just been offered a G68 in black, and although this is probably overkill for my needs price is very good, therefore, can someone more knowledgeable on Meridian kit which is most likely all members of meridian unplugged confirm if the following would work?

I have 2 x 5200.2’s and the matching centre speaker, and what i am trying to achieve is hooking up a bluesound node streamer via digital coax and tv via optical to G68 and feeding digital coax out to centre set as master speaker and speaker link to both speakers as slave?

So would this give me some kind of surround effect with centre doing voice, can i enter trifield mode, and would this down sample any tidal hi res 192/24 files to 96/24 that would play through the 5200.2’s?

Hi Dick,

To the best of my knowledge only the G68SL has speakerlink outputs and they will be as rare as hens teeth.

with any other G68 you would still require something like an ac12 to provide the speakerlink output I believe.

You don't need AC 12 or AC 11. It works fine with a digital cable from a G68 (ADV) but you need to configure your DSP5200 (one master) for Digital input. Then use a coax cable to connect the G68 to the DS5200 speakers and center. You also need to configure your G68 with Meridian Config program to set up 2 DSP5200 and 5200 Center.

G68 won’t accept anything over 96/24, so it won’t even see it to downsample it.

You wouldn’t connect all three together… the left and right you can link together (and to the processor) but the centre needs separately connecting to the processor. Each digital cable can carry 2 channels, ie left and right in a conventional stereo pair, left and right in a rear or surround pair. The centre connection also carries LFE. This is why you need to configure each speaker as left, right or centre when you set them up.

To clarify a bit:

With 5200.2, you have two options for connecting them:

- SpeakerLink (which carries the digital audio signal and comms down one Ethernet style cable)

- What we now tend to refer to as Legacy (Coax digital+Comms). These were usually pre-built by Meridian as Master (M5 - only connects between the Meridian source/processor and the Master speaker), Slave (S5 - connects the other speakers to each other, or back to the 511 patch board, or Slave patch on a processor).

- For completeness while on the subject of legacy leads, there is also a C5 which connects Meridian sources to each other for comms only, but this is not relevant for the purposes of this thread.

Your 5200.2 have both, so you are not necessarily tied to a SpeakerLink source or processor if you don’t wish to be, although you may decide this is worth it to you for other reasons above and beyond a working setup.
