Hi,
My system is Meridian DSP5200.2 (L+R speaker) and the HD621. In that system the left DSP5200 is the master and controller.
The HD621 (coax out) is connected to the master speaker (coax input). The left and right speaker are connected with SpeakerLink connection.
To use the HD621 I have to turn it on/off and change the source manually (by pressing the appropriate hard key on the HD621) but I'd rather use the MSR remote control.
For that the HD621 (BNC comms) is connected to the master speaker (BNC comms input) but it's not working.
Can somebody give me some advice. Thanks

Recently been playing with my DSP7200s and HD621 and can confirm the configuration should work.
In my case (for various reasons) I removed an 818 and replaced it with a G68, then replaced that with the HD621 direct.
Now I do not remember changing the Type on the DSPs so they probably remain at Type 5 or Type 6, i.e. telling the speaker to output source changes over comms. This configuration is covered on page 32 of the DSP speaker manual.
So perhaps your problem is actually in the DSPs and not the HD621?
Good luck.

I am not suggesting making the HD621 the controller, which I interpret is not possible in a DSP/Meridian SSP system.
Merely that the speakers need to know there is an upstream device that switches sources (which I clumsily referred to as a source conroller).
I my recent experiemnts, pressing the source switch on the HD621 did not activate the connected (via BNC comms) DSP speakers.

Type 5 or 6 is only when use a multi channel controller ie G68 / 861 etc. The HD621, whilst supporting multiple channels is not a multi channel controller.
Type 1 is the correct initial configuration for a pair of DSP’s in a 2 channel configuration. Then they should be customised as required.
In the case of using them with a just a HD621 (which is not a controller), they should be set to controller = Automatic or Yes.

Yes, the master speaker BNC comms output was connected to the slave speaker BNC comms input and it was working.

ISTR the HD621 can be retyped by switching it on whilst holding down the front panel key which is numbered for the required Type.
But I have never tried this and the only way to check would be to do a Fetch which is known to be less than accurate.

I had a play with MConfig when I got home and under no combination I tried can I get a comms link to appear between the HD621 and Master speaker.
The other thing, which Carl has touched on, is that I noticed the Comms on the HD621 is an input, and, in legacy comms at least, this is a C5 connection, which would be to another Meridian controller or source component, not to a DSP speaker.
I’m starting to doubt whether this is possible… Does anyone actually have this working?
O/P - have you considered getting a Meridian processor, if funds allow? Something like a 568.2mm is a phenomenal processor and would add so much functionality to your system (and allow you to use your centre DSP for Trifield, and movies, for example) for not too much money these days. If money is tight, I understand, it would just be a great addition to your setup and solve this problem instantly, also.

I can confirm that my DSP7200s work with an HD621. Selecting an active source will switch the HD621 to the correct input.
The left speaker is set to Master and Controller.
The HD621 is connected for comms using a BNC to BNC cable to the BNC comms input (and yes I do mean input*) on the left speaker.
The left speaker is connected to the right speaker using Speakerlink.
BUT I have not got it working for sound (yet) because of laptop issues. So it is still on an old 6-channel config.
The config is (relevant settings only) as follows:
Setup - System Address = 1 Audio (down column) - Smartlink/MMHR, Smartlink, 6 Ch, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes Types - unknown (see my previous posts above) - but probably = 0 Connections - C = Meridian Comms Input
* Just physically/visually checked as I realised I had taken out a G68 (which had been the Controller)

That would make sense as the Input would be Master comms, whilst the output of the speaker would be Slave comms (there is a slight difference!)
The input has to be two-way (i.e. to/from the DSP speaker) as they can send remote commands back to the processor (or in this case the HD621).
All inter-source communications must be using Master comms and it is only once it gets to a DSP speaker that it becomes Slave comms.
As an aside, I've always had problems getting a D1500 to work without any other DSP speakers in the system as there is nothing to give it a slave signal.
Sounds like we have a working solution...
Cheers,
Steve
