I finally got around to unpacking/setting-up my DSP5200SE’s. It has not been straightforward.

I’m having issues getting the new speakers to work…

They’re connected to my 218 in a ‘home run’ (not daisy chained). This worked perfectly well with my M6’s.

SpeakerLink is to the ‘Input’ on both Speakers (since I’m not daisy chaining).

The problem is I’m not getting any sound.

I’ve ensured that each is set to Type 1, and the Right Speaker is the Controller (R.M.RJ45), and the Left Speaker is to set to Slave (L.S.RJ45).

I’ve changed the MSR2 batteries, too.

I can select Radio, for example, but nothing happens with the volume level.

Using the Meridian app, I can select Net, or Radio, on my 218 and the speakers display both items - but I then cannot control the volume or get any sound out of either speaker.

I’ve left a message with the supplying PP, but no response so far.

Please advise.

Dependent on how much play they got as demo’s, the sound character might still have some settling into do. I bought some ex-demo SE’s recently and the sound has changed (or my ears have ;-)) a fair bit, particularly in the bass extension. I suspect they really hadn’t been played as much as I would have assumed.

I have to say that my experience of buying these speakers reminded me of the Meridian of old.

Given my recent experience of witnessing ropey ex-demonstration speakers, I had given this dealer a somewhat hard time on ensuring that the speakers he was selling were as blemish free as they were claiming. I was not able to travel to this distant dealership to check them out for myself.

The dealer had then subsequently called on Meridian to visit their store and check them out - while also updating the firmware for the dealer.

It was this same Meridian employee that also assisted me on troubleshooting the speakers’ configuration once the speakers had been delivered.

Given Bruce’s bad experience of DHL damaging goods in transit I rejected my dealer’s similar use of DHL for delivery. They subsequently arranged for their corporate inter-branch driver from Kent to directly deliver them to my home free of charge.

I’m very impressed by the overall experience.

Not sure if this helps but I seem to recall that my setup, the same as yours, didn’t work because I had the master and slave outputs from the 218 going to the wrong speaker (master output to speaker set as slave, etc.). Swapping the output sockets did the trick.

Hope you find the problem!
