What do you think the forthcoming Lenbrook streaming service will offer?

Will it:

- Work with Roon ?

- Only provide MQA tracks ?

- Be expensive ?

- Be available in 2024?

Cheers
Tom

- Work with Roon ? Hopefully yes otherwise it'll need a source rethink. Not impossible to do but integrated with Roon would be the preference.

- Only provide MQA tracks ? Hopefully not as there will be stuff that isn't MQA and I'd want a one-stop-shop especially as I'd bin Tidal.

- Be expensive ? Hopefully not but if the commercial model fixes some of the ills of the streaming world then I would be prepared to pay the previous Tidal rate. I suspect it would have to compete on price though.

- Be available in 2024? Hopefully yes as the MQA service (albeit what is left) ends in July. But who knows how long these things can take.

Has anyone heard any news on this? Seems to have gone awfully quiet since Lenbrook announced it’s streaming service a few months back…

This sounds like what Meridian MQA capable hardware has done from the beginning - and now Lenbrook’s products will get similar decoding?

I note no word on the streaming service.

One hope I have for this service is that it will have a tier like Qobuz which offers (discounted) purchase of MQA files for download.

It was always very difficult to purchase MQA encoded albums and I’m not sure why? Clearly this was a flawed business model, essentially leaving all eggs in one basket - Tidal - and we know how that worked out.

I would like to actually permanently own some of my favourite albums in MQA to ensure I continue to have access to them in future, plus streaming lots more.

There is also an environmental benefit to downloading, at least once you have streamed something enough times to ensure you will listen to it again and again. Streaming is far from free in terms of energy costs, and downloading once is much better in this regard.

The terrible fires raging in L.A. should be a wake-up call, if any were needed, that every little thing we can do to reduce our carbon footprint is essential. MQA’s reduced bandwidth is useful in this regard, the option of MQA downloads would be even better.
