The new Nucleus One from Roon is sensibly priced (£/$500) compared to their Titan (£/$3,700).

This has caught my attention as well when I saw the press release..

I use an Intel NUC with ROCK on currently. I’m sure I saw the processor was Celeron and others not impressed by this. Time will tell what early users think.

I’d like to hope with Harman taking control of Roon the standards remain high and also this becomes available in the UK.

Regards
David

Well there has been good and not so good so far.

Not so good is Roon not finding MQA which is still on Tidal, as Bluesound is finding it (although this may not last).

Good is immediately reversing the “no offline access” thing, which irritated a lot of customers and is welcome.

I’m hoping, going forwards, there is a partnership of some kind with whatever streaming service takes on the MQA mantle - might this be Lenbrook themselves…?

Hi Jonathan

This is an alternative option to something like a small pc (intel NUC) many use as their Roon core. This one is endorsed by Roon basically and is specified to the requirements needed to control and manage a Roon account.

You would still need a music platform subscription along side (Tidal/Qobuz) and endpoints for the output (210/218/818)

Unfortunately everything costs..

Best wishes

I recently had an extended email exchange with Tidal support about their MQA policy and really pushed them for a clear answer. Once I managed to finally get beneath the positive spin they’re trying for on this, the answer is very clear and is not great news for MQA fans at this stage.

Basically, if the studio or artist have supplied both MQA and hi-res flac copies, Tidal will now be using hi-res flac. If only MQA is supplied, the MQA file will be available.

I complained about this removal of a USP and user choice. This will be fed back up the chain. I can only imagine the current policy would change if very many users complained and demanded MQA back, though, so if anyone misses it, tell Tidal!
