I have an old (2008) Meridian Reference 800v3 CD player linked to DSP5000 speakers of the same vintage. I’d like to add a streamer to this system via a hardwired ethernet connection and am looking for advice.

- Can a streamer be added to this system, and how should it be connected?
- What streamers would you recommend? I’m assuming I won’t need a DAC?
- I know Meridian do a streamer themselves (210), but other suggestions would be welcome too. (A headphone jack would also be welcome.)

- My system does NOT use RJ45 SpeakerLink cables so presumably digital aux OUT goes to digital aux IN on the CD player?
- Will the MSR + remote control work with a new streamer?

Is this a possible set-up, or very complicated?

That 800 is a monumental player, but may have become obsolete. I sold my 508 long time ago, with a heavy heart. But I wasn't using it anymore. Now those DSP5000 are still very alive. If you connect those to a modern streamer they are still very competent speakers.

I recently had a pair of KEF LSX to test. A modern speaker costing about 800EUR. I thought it would be nice to compare them to my DSP33's. The DSP33 where much more expensive but that was about 20years ago.. Now the DSP33's sounded still much better than those current KEF's. I liked the KEFs, but they sounded a bit harsh and congested compared to the warm, open and detailed sound of the DSP33's. Vintage Meridian speakers are still worth listening to. If you want to improve them; replace the tweeters and caps.
