Before the 6ks arrive I have some questions about bass and the 861v4. My understanding is that I will want to set the system up to handle bass as LFE only. Does this mean the 861 will send some stuff in music (under the filter) to the 2500 sub, full range to the 6k's? Or is the LFE channel off in music mode? I'm sure I'm trying to either over simplify or seriously over complicate things here.

I am going to go ahead and admit I had forgotten how much bass the 6ks have on their own. Holy moly. Firmware upgrade and adding spikes tamed it quite a bit and I still have some fine tuning to do - but I see no need for my sub to exist now except for 5.1 material.

Actually you just solved a problem for me. I'd had the center sending its bass to the 6k's and the sub as just LFE so really only for 5.1 stuff. The 6k's are..... let us say over powered for a room smaller than a warehouse. Setting the sub to take the center bass tamed the 6k's to the point where it is *sane* now. I have 33's as rears and they are also set to send their bass to the 6k's (small setting in bass management page). I was going to use my 5k's as sides but one is experiencing a need of a refurb at the moment.

In current setup the bass is very balanced - this took a few steps but it makes sense as to why it was not balanced before but is now. I have not run MRC yet but I will at some point. The major changes were due to firmware update (was 4.002 now latest) for the 6ks, changing the sub to take the center bass which is a 5k set to small, and leaving the 6ks as large. It is *amazing* how well settled everything is with just those changes. I did some other things for imaging - toe in and head tilt changes... turns out ages ago someone else on the forum did a head tilt on the 6ks and had the same effect as what I noticed. Kinda neat.

It is by no means set up as good as it can be - MRC needs to happen and there are many other things I need to change (center speaker needs to gain about a foot of height but that also requires converting to a short throw projector instead of a flat panel TV, etc etc etc....

But. Holy. Moly. My previous setup had 5ks in place of the 6ks. They were *fine*. The sub was more than able to handle bass duty. With 6ks there is just something more to all of it. Not really more bass exactly (there is but that isn't the point) it is more like the bass has more dynamic range. And I dare say it goes lower than the sub or stays more stable lower? Hard to describe.

And the highs! The 5ks could get harsh. The 6ks are like Kerrygold Butter at room temperature.
