Bottom of post, it appears Meridian branded but I don't have a clue what the heck this thing could even do I tried it with all my equipment nothing works, I can't even find the freaking battery compartment ...

Another question, does the Meridian system remote only work on one piece of equipment at a time? I know how to set a control unit versus slave, but I would like to be able to control the DVD player to skip tracks and stuff but I don't want to lose control over the surround controller, am I stupid how can I control the 596 DVD at the same time as switching parameters on the surround?

The remote could be for the short-lived 586 DVD player. As it was based on Toshiba electronics, it would make sense.

To control multiple devices just requires them to be linked together using comms cables, put the lot into standby, and press CLEAR on the remote. This should select one as the controller (typically the surround processor) and then you can use FN + command key to operate the selected device - normal key presses will operate the master unit.
