I was somewhat dismayed on my visit to the recently opened HMV store in Solihull today.

Most of what was on offer was anime and comic-book related merchandise. More surprising was the significant vinyl availability compared to CD stock. It very much reminded me of a typical record store from the 1970’s. Moreover, CD stock was limited to pop/rock, with little, if any, classical or jazz CD’s.

I certainly wouldn’t pay just under £40 for Adele’s latest vinyl album.

Thank goodness for Tidal, Qobuz and Roon.

I think the high-end audio market is being pushed towards higher resolutions than CD and the mainstream end of the market towards iTunes and the like.

This leaves HMV shops with nowhere to go except, seemingly, selling Marvel merchandise. Sad, because I would love to buy CD's, if only there was a high-res version available...
