Meridian Unplugged - Powered by MrTechGuy.co.uk Forums Thread Like Summary - DSP5500 a year in and still learning

Further to acquiring a pair of mk1 24/96 DSP5500's about a year ago I am looking for some advice from those in the know.

In comparison to my previous Linn active speakers the 5500's are effortless in filling my room, with me regularly over a couple of hours listening increasing the volume to between 50 and 55 from a CD transport coax source (dependent on the recording).

I'm interested to know what volume other owners are listening at and if they are anywhere near causing damage to their speakers, themselves and potentially the structure of their home?

Secondly I am aware that due to the 5500's dac's I am unable to stream about 20% of the Amazon Music HD content (being above 96kHz) and was wondering if anyone had managed to arrive at a solution to this?

Lastly, when purchasing the speakers the previous owner alluded that the sound quality could be increased by playing sources through a 562 and I was curious to know if this was indeed the case?

AES research, and much DB Testing has proved that HooMan hearing can't perceive beyond 20bits at 96K. However, the Ferengi will sell you anything beyond those numbers, because they have the lobes .
