Hey everyone,

I thought it would be fun to kick off what will amount to a build thread - this is going to take a while but hopefully it will be an enjoyable journey to watch unfold.

March next year will be my 20th anniversary of being a member of this forum and for that entire time I have had Meridian kit - originally all second hand, then a set of 7200SE that I bought new, Meridian turning up in my car and so forth - that said ... and to quote Bad Boys 2 ... ‘Sh1ts about to get real’.

So without more a do a couple of teaser images

Current walls are in grey but getting them re-done in black with the light switch and sockets removed!

Oh and for those wondering, the sound and picture are quite simply mental.

Barco are back tomorrow to finish calibration (day 3 or 4 I think of calibration) and to give it its DCI certification smile

Thanks!

It was also in Home Cinema Choice last month.

It’s definitely been a journey that continues - we are about to install a new custom projector mount.

This new mount is orders of magnitude heavier and attaches directly to the substructure of the house / the basement slab - we found the speakers were so powerful they were able to shake the projector when played at the highest levels and so we have involved structural engineers to design something that can’t be moved smile I will update on how we get on! Do remember this projector is absolutely massive!

I am also still to hook up my laserdisc player (missing the correct lumagen component which are of course hard to find).

Also can’t remember if I mentioned it but I won mega bonus points by re-creating the actual night sky from the night of our wedding in the cinema star ceiling!

Pretty much yes.

Carpet and walls and even ceiling next week I think!

Projector install is also booked in before Christmas.

Only thing we might be missing are the Fortress seats which are on a boat coming from the US!

Oh and I heard it do 2-channel Spotify today - OMG

On the first bit - not a clue but I will ask smile Rest assured the guys doing all the work are experts in the space and the whole design has been signed off by Meridian, Barco and DCI before a penny was spent. I know the screen materials have been specified for this particular projector also. I guess one of the benefits of a DCI cinema is every element is carefully checked - I am also hoping to add day and date in the new year.

And yes it took 4 guys to carry the projector down to the cinema - crazy.

And the projector - as far as I am aware the first Barco Freya+ in the world! Hopefully getting calibrated next week.
And yes thats a normal size door and ladder to give you some idea of how big this is - I think the guys said 140kg!

Screen getting close - rough dimension is 6m across. Think the ceiling is just over 3m.

Almost!

Yes that's an LP12 that goes into the Trinnov below via a Radikal & Urika Combination.

The headphones are Audeze LCD-4 into a Questyle Golden Stack.
(Tidal source music comes via an 8TB Aurender N10).

The Barco calibration guys who flew in yesterday apparently said this was the best sounding cinema they had ever heard and their job is to setup the majority of cinemas worldwide (with Barcos in) including all the 'big' public ones.

In the end it is way easier to control sound in a small room like mine.

Couple of photos from today - the projection room in progress!
