Due to Sooloos and Tidal not currently working together, I thought I’d try using the USB input on my 818v3 and play Tidal direct from my laptop.
Seems simple when you read the 818 instructions (plug and play).

I’ve tried direct from laptop to 818 USB to USB with no joy.

I can see (800 series Audio) as an audio device on laptop (didn’t need drivers as it is Windows 10) and I’ve set volume to full.
Playing Tidal (using correct settings exclusive mode on and passing through MQA) Tidal is playing away but no sound from my DSP speakers.

This is where is all gets a bit new to me and I’m assuming I’ll need to update the config file/create a new one (can someone please confirm if this is the case)?

For reference:
I have an Mconfig file created by a PP that has an 818v2 installed so is somewhat out of date.
I’ve opened this up, but there is no 818v3 listed on the sources to update to.
If I open up the latest mconfig software it does list the 818v3.

Any help on the matter would be appreciated.

Thanks in Advance
Darren

P.S. I have used the search tool but not found anything that helps.

As an update to this issue:

I went through all the re-typing of Speakers, tried different cables, USB config, Tidal app settings...etc.

I ended up sending my config file to Rick @ Audio Images.

Within minutes he seemed to know what the issue was.

818 Type had been set to Variable rather than fixed.......As soon as I changed this in the config, I was able to use Tidal from my laptop to 818 via the USB.

Many Thanks again to everyone for all the help and suggestions, it’s times like this when you realise how valuable this forum is.

I also used this opportunity to update to the latest firmware for both 818 and 8000’s.

I’ve never really dug into the technical side of my system before, so this has been a steep learning curve, I was also getting COMS issues on my Laptop just to throw another curve ball/learning experience at me.

Once you understand what config and management software to use for what, it’s a lot less daunting than I first thought.

I still feel all this could be made a somewhat easier/enjoyable user experience by combining all the different softwares and config files into one user interface.......maybe that’s just wishful thinking on my part.

I am now thinking about giving Roon a trial on my laptop for starters and then dig into what that means from a hardware/software upgrade point of view if I get on with it.

Take care all and stay safe in these troubled times.

Any easy way to hear analogue out from the 818 - headphones maybe?

That will remove any doubt from misconfiguration of the cascading source configurations - 818 -> DSP

Have you tried re-seating the USB card in the unit ? It could just help reset.

Re-type the master DSP to Type 1 also just in case your D1 vs D2 didn't reset as you thought (only Type 5 allowed for both inputs as different sources IIRC).

Try a different USB cable to rule that out.

Also double check your config for USB source is OK in the config file.

Double check the pesky settings in the Tidal app.

Failing that just do a trial run with Roon. Nothing to lose and get the ID41 back in action.

Beyond that I don't know what else to try in lockdown.
