For Device Manager, you need to use a Windows 10 machine. The software still appears to depend on an older version of .NET and may not work properly under Windows 11.

At least, that has been my experience.

FOC: Pioneer CLD-D704 MrDoody 18 hours ago
Cleaning things out! When I mothballed this D704 12 or more years ago it was working fine. CD and LaserDisc.

More info: https://www.lddb.com/hardware/0534/laserdisc/Pioneer/CLD-D704

I think I have the remote and I imagine I have a power cable (it's a standard jobbie). Not sure I have the manual - 50/50 odds.

Free to any Hitchhiker who can come pick it up.

FOC: 562V and 598 MrDoody Yesterday at 23:36
I've got these two pieces that have been gathering dust for quite some time (like, a dozen years, probably more).

Just the units. No boxes, cables, remotes, manuals, or anything.

562V: As far as I can recall, it worked perfectly when I mothballed it.

598: I am fairly certain it was modded with the SDI-out. Before it was decommissioned, I seem to remember it had the flaky open/close problem many (most? all?) 598s had back then.

Happy to give them to a fellow Hitchhiker - as long as you come pick 'em up.

LMK!

Replace the LM317. They do go bad and don't hold voltage.
Buy a higher spec model.

Meridian Control menu bar app (and some hidden Ellipse treasures) RBM Yesterday at 20:38
Been poking around inside my Ellipse for a bit, trying to create an app that avoids the slowness of the Meridian Control iOS app. So far (running on macOS, will port to iOS later):

[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]

From top to bottom:

- Album Art (+background fade in color palette)
- Progress bar with scrubber (contrasting color from artwork palette)
- Streaming source + audio format
- Metadata + track controls
- Volume slider
- Volume presets (configurable in settings, collapsible)
- Source selection
- EQ settings (surprising find: loudness + full equalizer, collapsible)
- Display brightness
- Power/Standby

The Meridian specific DSP presets (FREE-Q, BASS & SPACE, IMAGE ELEVATION) are elusive as of yet. But yes – it's lighting fast. Not sure if this will work for 210/218 as well – it is talking to the StreamUnlimited interface (and a little bit of Meridian IP control).

Following sales my updated remaining items available:

2 x Meridian MSR+ Black Remotes all boxed in excellent condition

1 x Meridian 800 Series 30mm rear blanking plate

4 x 35MM diameter black round feet, I think they are for mounting DSP5500s on a wood or concrete floor

4 x 75mm diameter silver round feet with rubber ring surrounds for DSP8000 speakers

I'm happy to email pictures of all items to HH enquirers

In addition I have the following Meridian related items (all new and unused):

1 x 1M StarTech.com Serial Cable, for connecting to the Keyspan adapter
3 x 2M StarTech.com Serial Cable, for connecting to the Keyspan adapter

I leave these connected to each of my Meridian processors etc so that it is easy to connect up the Keyspan adapter. I bought these items for another system that didn't proceed hence they are now spare.

These unsold items are also on eBay.

All enquiries welcome.

Gianni, I suggest watching The Real Reason Dolby Atmos Disappoints that answers your questions on why Atmos may or may not work for you, compared to installing an Atmos system that actually delivers.

Hi Gianni

I think room dimensions do come into it. Maybe start by excluding speaker positions that you can't accommodate.
I've help with a couple of Atmos builds and they have all had ceiling speakers that have added to the experience. I'm sure you're aware that there a multiple Atmos layout standards.

Cheers
Tom

My suggestion; contact your nearest friendly Meridian/Trinnov dealer. Borrow a Meridian 271 and Trinnov Altitude CI to home-audition them in place of your existing processor.

Then, without any doubt, you can authentically assess the difference Trinnov Optimizer can make to your existing 5.1 system.

Re: Occasional Flashing Light swpnt 2026-07-21 12:01
Hi Ian,

It's probably the digital 'clipping' light (which should be yellow).

This can occur when the recording engineer has exceeded 0dB within the digital domain.

If it only happens on certain tracks, then it's probably nothing to worry about.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,

Steve

Hi Steve, it looks like it is orange and is the same size as the green standby light and in the main dot-matrix display. Not one of the rectangular lights. It is a flash rather than a flickering.

Re: Occasional Flashing Light swpnt 2026-07-21 09:30
Hi Ian,

What colour is the light, and where is it located?

Each light has a specific meaning, and knowing which one is flickering will help diagnose the issue.

Cheers,

Steve

Occasional Flashing Light IanP 2026-07-21 08:48
I've noticed on two occasions recently that whilst playing blu-rays with the displays dimmed, a single LED in the master 8k flashes briefly. I've not noticed this with either CD or streaming input which bypasses the 861.

I noted that this also happened last year a couple of times too. Initially, I put it down to temperature but apparently that creates a green light as a warning the speaker could be overheating.

I seem to remember that a speaker could be clipping on high frequency sounds but as it is digital that does not make sense. There is no mention in troubleshooting to explain this behaviour. Any thoughts of what may be causing the flashing?

Thanks

I think it would be nice Meridian would keep the 800 platform alive and just adds modern streaming to it. Hope is a feeling of desire and confident expectation that something good will happen.

I can’t see them keeping the 800 design, at least physically. Aside from the fact it’s dated, the card-based architecture only makes sense with multichannel, and we know that, sadly, Meridian won’t be doing that any more. I would guess a completely redesigned endpoint both aesthetically and technically. I do wonder, now that they won’t be releasing another surround processor, whether they will consider using some of their proprietary tech, such as Trifield, MRC and possibly sub management, in their flagship stereo endpoint. I really do hope, if it’s something along these lines, that they get a decent designer in, someone worthy of Allen Boothroyd’s legacy. The last few products look like they were designed by a student doing work experience.

Maybe it’s being subsidised by Roon as a cheaper solution than fixing whatever they’ve done to break Sooloos (218, ID4x) support recently - upgrade everyone to RAAT 😂

When I still had my DSP7200SE and was experimenting with a DSW, Rick gave me a good advice; just go 8K. I wasn't ready at the time. The 7200's + DSW where great, but he was right all along. 8K was what I was looking for.
