Sorry to come into this thread but what is upsampling exactly? I feed 16bits 44Khz from the 596 redbook digital out and all I got from the 3100 is the same resolution. Only when I feed 96hz then the orange leds light up on the speakers. I don't get if there is upsampling or not?!
I thought initially that the 3100 did not have the fifo buffer cause its not mentionned anywhere on Meridian advertising but in the user manual its precised how to turn FIFO on/off when associated with very poor digital sources so 3100 has FIFO even if not mentionned.

The yellow/orange lights on 24/96-capable DSP loudspeakers only comes on, as you say, when you feed them high-resolution audio (i.e. a 88.2kHz or 96kHz signal). However, the latest DSP speakers from Meridian will upsample standard resolution audio (i.e. 44.1kHz and 48kHz) *internally* prior to feeding the speaker's DACs.
Meridian devices (sources, processors and speakers) also perform resolution-enhancement (increase in word length from 16-bits to, typically, 24-bits) at the same time as upsampling.
The very latest upsampling algorithms from Meridian feature an "apodizing" filter.

Ok thanks so that means that the 3100 are already upsampling but not with the latest algorithms that include apodizing?

I seem to remember in a thread some time ago that there was a way you could tell if the speakers were upsampling by the way the k was presented after the khz in the speaker display. Something along the lines of it it was a capital K your speaker was upsampling and if a small k it was not.
I have never noticed a change in k on my displays but more importantly I have noticed a distinct difference in SQ between feeding my speakers a non upsampled source (from a G06) and an upsampled source (from my G91 in 2 channel digital mode). I am therefore convinced that the DSP3100s do not upsample as I believe the only significant difference between the 2 sources is upsampling capability?
I suggest M perhaps overlooked the DSP3100s in their comments about upsampling capability accross their speaker range!
Just my 2 penneth!

The "K" and "k" refer to the signal being received by the speakers and not if they themselves are upsampling.
K = 96KHz input k = 48KHz input
(and other multiples).
