Haven't bought on here before, I'm more often found on AVForums with the same username if you want to check me out. So please do let me know how you do things on here. On AVFs everything is kept on the thread so other users can see and learn and track what things sell for. If that's not the way on here, then please do tell me.

Welcome to the forum. We generally prefer discussions to be kept off forum and done via pm, which specifically avoids the "bear pit" nature of things found on the AVForums classifieds.

Thanks George, how do you know the status of an item that's offered for sale if everything is kept off the "for sale" thread? And how do you police the forum, if you have no transparency? Nevertheless, I'm very happy to be here and very pleased to find such a healthy and well populated forum for Meridian owners. I guess my next step is to PM Snails.

Hi Will

No policing required...it's a friendly community with a high level of (earned) trust. When kit is sold, the thread starter will update the thread to say so. If it's an interesting piece of kit which you see advertised, pm quickly if you want to buy. I think we've managed to avoid the tyre kickers of AV forums by largely working this way.

Thanks guys. Have to be honest, I actually think AVForums do a fantastic job. WHF far less so. So I'm at a loss to understand the criticism. That said, I can see this is a great community and I'm glad that you have the levels of respect for each other that you say you do. And thanks for the hearty welcome. Very nice indeed. I appreciate you all taking the time to write back. I'm just sorry to be doing so on Snail67's for sale thread. Hope he doesn't mind! Now, lets see if he writes back to me about buying that 556.

Ahhhhh, I see what you mean. Yes, you do get a lot of people making silly offers for kit, well below the price the seller can expect to achieve eventually. I tend to call them "thread spoilers" because once they've posted their daft offer, they devalue the thread and lead sensible minded people to believe the item is worth less than it is. Sort of a form of "mud sticks". Very annoying.

So how do you all keep track of what things are selling for second hand if you never see the deal-done price on the for sale threads here? For instance, if I hadn't been searching eBay and other places, how would I learn what a 556 is currently selling for?
