Yes I'm running the HD621 and there was a positive change even with the HD621 enabled. It's not earth shattering, but it's nice

Meridian also changed the "EQ", whatever that means. It could have something to do with the crossover and/or time alignment of the drivers. In other words, you should still do the update if you have an 808.2. I talked with Meridian America today regarding an update to the original DSP5200 and they were not aware of any update. Does anyone have the link for the update? They did indicated that in theory though adding the updating would not change the sound since I am using the 808.2i with the new filters. However, they did say anything would be possible in real life.

See the Link "Meridian Software" at the bottom the forum.
At the top of the page you'll see a link called "Common Installer"
Install that and it will prompt you to install everything including 5200 firmware.
Use MConfig to update the firmware.
Like others said even though your 808.2 is doing most of the heavylifting there are other changes in that firmware release that you probably want.
The advice you got from who ever you talked too was ill informed.

Would it be more desirable to go with 3 DSP3100's or a pair of DSP5200's? I guess it's another way of asking whether Trifield is really that impressive.

For a lot of users, Trifield is the main reason to buy or stay with Meridian. It's that good.

A pair of 5200 any day of the week! 3100 is not close in output performance and Will get strained alot quicker IMHO.

Trifield is very good, but given the above choice, I would say a Pair of DSP5200's.
You can always add a Centre later.
You don't say if you already have a Processor, but if you don't, then it's not strictly necessary if you only have 2 Two by 2-channel sources, as they can be fed direct and digitally to the DSP5200 pair.

The problem with the DSP 5200 route is that I do not have the room in my place to fit a third 5200, horizontal or vertical. So I'm really left choosing between Trifield 3100 or stereo 5200.
I currently don't have a processor but will most likely get a G91/2 if I end up with any of the Meridian speakers above.

You can mix and match. I have M60 L & R and an M33C and it sounds great. The M33C is one amazing speaker, so perhaps a DSP33C would fit in well for Trifield. The 5200's are fantastic IMHO and you would be well advised to listen to them . Cheers, Chris
No 18 in the Hall of fame I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best: GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone

Thanks, Chris. I was under the impression that you had to have 3 identical model speakers for Trifield to work properly. If I could conceivably just slide a DSP 3100 HC in there later, that would be ideal for my space.
