Yes, I have my fronts - larger than 5200's - set to small. With a crossover not set too low they get a lot of "middle-bass" to play anyway. But since Meridian don't think per-speaker crossovers are a good idea all speakers has to be able to handle the delivered bass.

It might have been because Meridian processors are restricted to eight output channels and that, if you have stereo subs, you can't have a 7.2 setup, only 5.2. Can anyone help me out here? I certainly intend to try a 5.2 setup at some point.
crazy I had a couple of years worth of discussion regarding subs - through John Kotches' Q&A session - with Meridian... I wanted the possibility of the same signal sent to miltiple subs, for instance a 5.3 setup with mixed analogue and digital subs, but Meridian didn't like the concept of sending the same signal to several subs. And now they're recommending chaining mono subs - the solution I had to use (a center/back mono config with the two Velodynes chained as a center sub)...? confused

I am reading this thread and I want to know because I should set as "small" speakers as dsp5200 or dsp5500. I know that they treat very well the lowest bass. What's the motive/s?
Why don't we complete the job dearly developed by VK with the best configuration for 2-channel movie & music? this can be a valid help for the beginners. I hope in the help of some experienced.

I believe the argument is basically if your mains (or sub) are as good or better at bass than your center let them take the bass load.

I'd say in your setup (in your signature) you definitely want center set small.

I have now raised the crossover of my DSP5200HC to 100Hz. Every other speaker is set to large. It will split the center bass with the front 8k's. LFE is split among all "large" speakers (6).

I only had a SW1600 with this 7.0 setup so I removed it since the total LFE output is much greater from all speakers combined than from a single sub and they integrate better with the room since they are spread out.
