Nick and MI',

each shelf is made from 3 layers of 2cm plywood, reinforced with steel tubes to bear 40-60kg of equipment without bending. so that's about 22-23kg of shelf itself - not really movable kind of stuff.
there two 2 cuts 5x25 cm near the wall for cables in every.

cabling was difficult only for pre + DVD shelf (2nd from the bottom), because there is not enough space over devices. Couldn't do higher gaps since top shelf is already sits at 168 cm.

I miss my old Meridian setup.

I took as a guide Ivan's design, thanks, since I have a similar recess. I built shelves on the principle of the torsion box and supported each shelf from the side walls on 4 25mm eccentric stainless steel pins 24mm long. The eccentric pins allow the shelves to be levelled with the advantage of the shelves having no contact with the walls except via line contact with the pins. The shelves have a 3mm gap each side and a 75mm gap at the back to run cables. The shelves were tested by my mother sitting on the lowest one!

Finally managed to finish my new HT although it will be predominantly a 2 (or 3) channel listening room. Dimensions are 14 feet wide at the speaker end and 25 feet to the windows. The part with the gear rack extends the room another 7 feet or so wide. There is also a hidden 100 inch acoustically transparent screen which comes down in front of the DSP7k.

Nice set up, but doesn't the 7k centre look small! I like the 800 and 861 in graphite and that is one serious turntable...

Terrific setup, Howie. Very nice room.

Do the 8Ks have speakerlink?

If so, are you running the 808i.2 to them direct or is it going through the 861?

Bill

Thanks guys,

The shelving is a new absorption / diffusion acoustic panel sponsored by the music industry wink

Yes I still use CDs and LPs even though I have about 280GB of apple lossless encoded music on my computer. I am saving for the Sooloos at which point the shelves may be relegated to storage.

My 8ks are pre speakerlink so the 808i.2 goes via the 861 although I have to be honest, it sounds BETTER through the 861 than direct. Lord know why??!!

howie

Nice setup Howie, Congrats

Out of curiosity regarding the above statement, do you mean that e.g. Trifield sounds better or do you mean Direct Preset from 808/861 combo sounds better than Direct from the 808 alone??

Also, have you tried Toe-ing in the rear 3100's??
