Alan (or anyone), For those of us living in Atlanta, can we just go through Meridian to get the upgrade or must we go through a dealership?

Additional comments:-
Andrew Samalionis at Meridian informed me that only the 596 has a 6 month time limit. The 568-568.2 was not indicated as being limited, although, I expect any manufacturer is at liberty to change their mind if dealers are now hearing differently.
As for the original question of whether the upgrade is worth it....not for me as yet. I am putting a 598 into an original 568.
This gives me:-
DVD-A MLP hi-res stereo (shown as MHR 96K on the 568). On initial listenings through my 55k's, this is quite excellent. I don't use Trifield much anyway, and haven't actually seen what the 568 does with it from a 96K source.
plus
access to the DVD-V soundtracks (i.e. DTS 5.1, DD 5.1) to enjoy the surround versions when I want.
What I don't get is MLP hi-res surround. I know that for sure it is good, but, I am not sure that I can justify going hi-res all round, as the upgrade will mean upgrading my 5k rears to 96/24 also....not something I was planning to do.
To be honest, for the .1% of my music listening that involves the rears, I'm happy as is.
As for Meridian selling an upgrade direct?....I think not.

I know that I'm probably being a little ignorant (and maybe just a little lazy) by asking this, but what exactly does the .2 upgrade get you? It's my understanding that multi-channel upsampling and the ability to add the MHR for DVD-audio, but is that it? Doesn't the original 568 upsample the front three channels?

The upgrade is includes their new DSP board. This new DSP board will most likely be needed for all future software updates. (features)
For now you get 8-channels upsampled instead of 4 with the .1 DSP board.

I get L/C/R but what's the 4th upsampled channel in the .1 ?
Otherwise, I agree that it's hi-res surround and everything upsampled in the .2.

Wanted to clarify an earlier post regarding the 568 to 568.2 or .2MM. I spoke with another local dealer who said that there is NO time limit to the upgrade. Since I had received two differing opinions from dealers, I did check with Meridian in Atlanta, and they verified that there is NO time limit on the 568 upgrades.
Thanks Meridian.......

The sub is the 4th channel.
It uses the same DAC / path as the center channel.
