I've received M's response through my dealer:

"The HD621 will enter "Receiver mode" when any display is turned off. There may be a small pause or silence while the devices communicate with each other. This is not a symptom of a fault with the HD621, but a consequence of the HDMI handshaking. The same will be true when turning the display back on.

The URL for the manual is below:

I'm afraid it is not helpful, so I've approached them again.

I agree. I think they owe us more than rote responses.

Stacey:

As my name has finally percolated to the top of the list I know find myself having the opportunity to purhcase the Oppo BDP-83.

As:

i. I know have a Panasonic DMP-BD60

ii. I will only use my Blu-Ray player for Blu-Ray disks as a) I do no watch DVDs anymore b) I have a M 800 for CDs and DVD-A and cSACD is not of interest to me

is, in your opinion, the performance of the Oppo signiifcantly better than the performance of the Panansonic that I should consider the change / upgrade?

TIA.

Can you clarify why you did this? I'm planning a setup with PS3, HD621 and VP50Pro and would like to understand why you wouldn't want to use the VP to process the PS3 video.
Thanks

The question was not directed to me, but I will enter my $.02 (US). My prior player was a DMP-BD30; essentially a 60 but without the audio decoding. The Oppo BDP-83 is in my opinion a much better player. Subjectively the picture looks sharper with greater depth and fewer artifacts, and the disc load times are much faster than the Panasonic's.

If you think listening to music is fun, try learning an instrument.

Apologies in advance, as I think this has already been covered earlier in this now very long thread ... I could not find a clear answer ...

I have a Lumagen Radiance XE, with three HDMI sources: (1) an HD250 Tivo unit, that outputs audio only on a toslink not HDMI, (2) a Merdian 800 that outputs audio on the MHR three SPDIF cable output, and, (3) a Denon 3800 Bluray player.

Processor is an 861v4. Projector is a Marantz S4

I use the 800 and Denon for both Movies and for music playback.

Where in the chain should I put the Radiance and the HD621? Which box does video switching? Where would audio switching be? What problems will I likely encounter?

There is an audio compatability problem between the HD621 and the XE when the XE is put in front of the HD621 which caused endless hours of frustration on my part...bottom line answer is, the HD621 MUST go in front of the XE...

Does all work ok if the HD621 goes in front of the XE? The chain properly passes audio sent over HDMI, and, there are not sync issues if I switch sources using HD621?

Yes, it all works when the HD621 is placed in front of the XE but not perfectly; for example, I am not convinced that the HD621 is passing through the custom VIDEO EDID settings from the XE to the source device...but, that said, unless you using a lot of custom configuration VIDEO EDID settings in the XE you should have NO problems.

As far as audio is concerned in my setup -- because the HD621 is in front of the XE -- audio never touches the XE (other than the audio stream embedded in the HDMI video signal that is passed from the HD621 to the XE).

Another point worth mentioning is that another poster her, jack_d to be specific, had the same issues that I had and eneded up putting the HD621 in front of the XE.

Has anyone tried running HDMI from an 800 to a HD621 for video while running MHR via 3 SPDIF from 800 to 861?

TIA

No, I have not tried doing that as I am no longer using my 800 for anything other that CD playback...
