Probably a daft question but...I've been looking at the specs on these 2 machines and they 'seem' identicle appart from the transport mech. Is this true?

G92 doesn't do DVD-Audio. Apart from that and the slot loading mechanism, yes they seem pretty much identical.

The G91 will play DVD-A discs whilst the G92 will not. I think that's the main difference...I'm not aware of any others, but I haven't looked closely at the spec sheets.

There were different versions of the G91, the G91DH (aimed at DSP users), G91AH (aimed at analogue users)and G91A (handled both), and G91A DAB (handled both, and had FM/DAB instead of FM/AM). I think the G92 directly replaced the G91A and can also be had with or without DAB.

Cheers

Thx fot the replies guys, I had a feeling you'd know whats what!

The version I'm getting is the G91a DAB as part of the Sale that Meridian have running at the moment. It is partnering a G57 power amp. I'm hoping the 91 is going to be at my local Dealers by Monday or Tuesday next week. Can't wait.

Just out of curiosity does anyone know how the CD playback on the 91a compares to the G08?

I think that both the G91 (vs. G92) and FM/DAB (vs. AM/FM) are the options to go for. Out of interest, how much is it? (if you don't mind saying)

In all likelihood, CD playback will be quite comparable to the original G08 when the G91 is in upsampling (two channel) mode. IIRC, it doesn't upsample at all when in multichannel mode. The G08.2 has apodizing upsampling, of course, and should be superior by some margin.

VK, the pricelist for Meridian equipment on special offer at the moment is on the Martins HiFi website (UK). All of the 'special' deals are listed there. I paid the price shown.

I will be running this system in stereo only which will mean multi channel tracks mixed down to stereo for movies. Some may say this is a bit of a waste but I prefer a stereo presentaion, particularly for music.

So in laymans terms please, what is apodizing upsampling as oppose to plain old upsampling? Excuse the noobish question.

If not, I suggest you do somtime, of course with all things Meridian, it's a slipery slope. Be prepared to be hooked. Cheers, Chris smile

Chris, was it yourself who had been enthusing about the Music preset a while back? If so, I'm with you on that one. I don't use it all of the time, but I do prefer it to Trifield for the breadth & depth of image, and consistent tonality vs Direct.

Cheers

George, I know I rattle on about Mulogic somtimes, great with Studio overdubed Music. DSOTM a classic example.
I agree, you have to experiment with the differant settings to get the best out of differant musical styles.
A bit OT but relevant I think, Cheers, Chris smile
