Roger, I don't think you would need to do that at all, the amount of 192khz stuff out there is mighty slim, that would have to be a decision for you to make based on how much 192khz capability you need

Virus, I think the Oppo ignores the audio EDID stuff, not certain of that

the SPDIF mod output cannot be limited, it is a pure tap into the signals that go to the analog section, the limiter is only for optical/coaxial and HDMI

the SPDIF mod tapped outputs have nothing to do with any settings or if HDMI is used etc., it is separate from all of that

I just wanted to update this thread and say that as soon as the region free mod is completed and ready to go I am posting the order info, it will actually be pre-order info (sort of) because I will be filling the orders as they come in

I cannot begin to describe the interest in my modified players, I will easily have 150 orders to fill when things get rolling and everything is combined, powerbuy here, direct interest, previous customers etc.

the amount of interest is bordering on insane

Gary, hopefully this is a win win situation for everybody and wil reward you for the hard work you've put in designing and executing the mods. To my mind, the product is an extremely attractive one at what for most of us is an affordable price.

I have the first modded 83 in the 'wild' and can confirm the above... nothing I tried w/r to settings in the Oppo 83 had any effect on the frequency being sent over the modded SPDIF ports... you get the native resolution/frequency of the source material.

Good and bad I guess, though as Gary points out there are very few 192kHz DVDAs out there. Is SACD converted to 96kHz PCM?

SACD is 88.2Khz, everything is passed untouched, as you said good news mostly and bad news for some sadly

DTS Master and TrueHD may eventually hit 96khz as norm, 192khz I don't see, although the new Akira Blu-ray is 192khz TrueHD

I believe all my Japanese Victor Entertainment/Flair jazz DVD-As are 192khz mono and/or stereo, outside of them I can't remember seeing higher than 96khz.

What about DVD-A?

The very few DVD-A's that have 2-channel (or mono, didn't know about that) 192kHz also usually have lower resolution on the disc, like 24/96 5.1. Otherwise you would need to rip, convert to 24/96 and either reauthor or play that from a USB disc connected to the Oppo...

The discs I mentioned are old(ish) jazz recordings, Art Pepper (afaik, Bob Stuart has used this to demo DVD-A done right, and mentioned it several times as a reference disc), Sonny Rollins, Cannonball Adderley, Miles Davis, some others.
No menus, some are MLP, some are PCM.
Expensive, but well worth checking out if you're into jazz.
