The HD621 will work out of the box using it's default for most, with the configuration done in the processor 861/G68/586mm to setup the multi-channel input for each audio source conected to the HD621.

However, I also changed the defaults in the HD621, so that for example TV, SAT and CABLE all select the same HD input (SAT). To do this you need to connect the RS232 lead directly to the HD621.

Regards
Carl.

When other folks configure your 621, do you do it all through g68/861 or do you have to move the rs232 to the 621 to configure it?

After adding the HD621 to the mconfig file, the option to update it shows up on the crumb trail just after the option to update the G68. So I uploaded the new configuration to the 68 and then to the HD621 via serial.

As mentioned, it is supposed to be set up to work with an all Meridian system out of the box.

Does he have to run mconfig on the rs232 of the HD621 to set it in to "receiver" mode mentioned?

There's no mode configuration of this kind that I've found.

Receiver mode is automaticaly selected when the output display is switched off.
It is not a configuration option.

The best way to see what can and can't be done is drag a HD621 in to M-config and right click for properties. There is realy not a lot to configure, it took me about 5 mins to check, digest and adjust where required every screen tab. If I ever need to do it again from scratch it would only take me a couple of mins all in.

Regards,
Carl.

I see now. I thought is was something that had to be turned on per source or something.

George,

Glad I could help clarify this, most of the time it is the other way round.

Just trying to stimulate conversation to help ESL-63 as I don't have an HD621 myself.

Agreed. Unlike the G68/861, you cannot use mconfig on the 568, only the legacy program (everybody knows this). The only way the 568 and the HD621 see each other is via a comms link.
The only things I really changed (from default) in the HD621 properties were the sources. I am waiting for M's response, through my dealer. Thanks to all who have contributed to the discussion so far.

One further thing. The diagnostic display on the 568 shows that the audio is being received and processed, yet there is no sound with the video out on the HD621 connected and display off - weird!

I'm sure you will get the definitive answer from M but IIUC changing the sources would require you to download the config to the HD621 via serial.

Sounds like an HDMI handshake issue to me. After my (and several others') experience trying to get the HD621 to play nice with the Radiance video processor I believe that M have done something quirky in their HDMI implementation that causes problems with some other HDMI devices. In this regard, I have a lot more confidence that the makers of the Radiance have more experience with HDMI implementation than M and therefore have done it correctly.
