I can actually get RS232 as well Yes, it now seems Oppo believes RS-232 will only take one extra week. I wonder if I would soon get an email from Oppo that I can order a unit, if they would let me have it shipped to CHT (for modding) instead of to my registered address...?

I sure hope so because that's exactly what I did. My invitation was issued earlier this week, so mine will be in the first group shipped, hopefully next week. I'll call Oppo Monday and make sure everything is OK with HT receiving it. I'll post what I find out. Ken

Jim, J ended up taking the unit, sorry about that, would you like for me to see if I can set you up with one other unit, it will be a stretch but I can try, that would be it though right now for sure I can actually get RS232 as well thanks Glad that my HH friend Coachjay is in. Gary, If "stretch" affects your overall delivery to all HHers, then I'll wait in the cue. But if you can do it and want an early user focused on the Audio difference between M 800 and the new fully modded Oppo then "I'm Your Man" (Thanks Leonard!) I'll use his concert CD among others to compare. I will also comment on SACD SQ but without M comparison (sadly). Awhile back, HH kswanson and I posted comments on a similar CD test with the Oppo 980. Thanks JimK

I'm sure they would, I am having a few guys look into doing this right now, as long as they have your billing address I don't think they would mind, plus the people at Oppo know me pretty well I would think let me know if you need any help at all thanks

Another 101 question. Is the RS232 a firmware upgrade or are these different units with RS232 sockets on the back?

I have had more interest in the ultimate analog audio ed. than I thought would happen, so I wanted to post more specs on that version of my modified Oppo offerings, not many here will be interested in this but here goes, I will be posting more complete specs and features for all the modified versions in the next little bit
the ultimate analog audio ed consists of: -upgraded main power supply with filtering and toroidal isolation transformer -upgraded 27mhz main clock with its own dedicated transformer based power supply -upgraded analog audio board with higher spec low ESR caps for all 10 channels(over 30 caps changed in all) -add in additional dedicated power supply for the analog audio section, this is a medical grade isolated power supply section that totally isolates the analog audio section from the rest of the units power supply (which is shared with digital circuits) -replace the IEC power input with a grounded version -shielded grounded power cable is included -the entire top chassis is shielded with copper shielding material -vibration reducing/isolation feet are added to the bottom of the chassis
thanks
