Hi all
I would really appreciate it if someone could help answer/confirm a few queries I have in relation to my 568.1 and the Oppo:
1. To get high-res audio, I need to upgrade to 568.2MM (must be MM?)
2. The Meridian mod for the Oppo would use 3 of the 4 SPDIF inputs on the 568 - could the 4th input could still be otherwise assigned (eg for digital TV)?
3. Does the Oppo decode all formats and send that only as PCM via the Meridian mod?
4. Further to 3. above, for normal DD/DTS, would it be preferable for the Meridian to do all the decoding and can this still be done with the mod in place (e.g. via the Oppo's other optical/SPDIF digial out to one of the remaining digital inputs on the 568)?
5. Are there any other issues/considerations with a 568? FYI, I don't use a centre speaker and use analogue amps and speakers.
Thanking you in advance.
Kind regards,
Mark

To MarkG.
1 To get high-res audio into the 568.2mm in PCM you need .2mm, it will not internally decode DTS-MA, etc.
2 The .2mm provides inputs 5,6,7 (which can be used either individually for PCM/DTS/DD or collectively for 6 channel PCM) you will still have the four co-ax and one optical available.
3 Others know better.
4 The preferecne is subject to debate, the functionality will exist after the .2mm upgrade.
5 None that I can see except you can only receive one 6-channel PCM source - a G61R, etc. would allow two.
In the spirit of Spinaltap, I would like to confirm that I am not involved in the corrupt theft of a global sport.

Gianni,
Thanks for the prompt reply.
Re: point 2, where do inputs 5,6,7 come from - additional inputs on the back (i'm not sure where they would fit) or does it tie into the smartlink somehow?

I think Gary said RS-232 version won't be available right away. Correct, Oppo says that RS-232 will be $89 extra and come "later"...

Re: point 2, where do inputs 5,6,7 come from....does it tie into the smartlink somehow? Hi Mark That's the Smartlink connector. You still have four coax digital and one optical inputs to play with over and above the smartlink connection. You would need a 3 SPDIF to VGA converter cable (rated for SXGA I think) to get signal from the Oppo into the 568.2mm or a Meridian 513 box if you can find one, which is simply a junction box to do the same thing) Cheers George

Mark the Oppo decodes all formats internally and sends via PCM ,no BS, any format is decoded including DTS Master and TrueHD I would actually use the internal Oppo decoding of all audio including SD DVD DTS and Dolby, it is output perfectly via the 4x SPDIF thanks Mark

Regarding 3 & 4.
#3) I believe Oppo does or will do all formats.
#4) Most players once set to pcm over HDMI send EVERYTHING as pcm including DD/DTS so it's not easy to allow Meridian to decode dd/dts with a high-res setup. I assume Oppo is the same. If someone knows different please correct me.

I'm going to try and get my hands on a HD621 and run the Oppo side by side and then back and forth with the HD621 in line with Oppo. I might pull my dealer over to help This should be big fun, stand by everyone as I'm sure I'll need help from fellow HH. Best, Jay
