After some more testing, and new FW, Oppo is now the king of video. For those using a DVDO, 4:2:2 and 4:4:4 out will produce the best quality. Each time I think I have it all figured out, something new pops up with color space. <sigh> Also, if using DVDO, set contrast to -1 on VP50 or 50Pro. Need to double check the Edge. I am speaking with Panasonic about the 4:2:2 vs. 4:4:4 output. They output 4:2:2 and there is no choice. They were going to change to force 4:4:4 and then fall back to 4:2:2. I think I have enough evidence now to justify a user option of 4:2:2 vs. 4:4:4 because what you plug it into makes a HUGE difference on which color space to chose.

tip to set video to ENHANCED rather than STANDARD to pass BTB and WTW. If you are truly getting YCbCr out of the Panasonic, then these settings should not apply. I have the 55 set to Standard and I get BTB and WTW when passed into the 50Pro. I also have the player set to "lighter". I suspect the green is caused by color covnersion. ie it is sending one color space but reporting another. I did try the 55 straight into the HD621 and saw green. My display is reporting that it is getting YCbCr. DVDs do not look so good from the 55. Their chroma is jaggie. Its not the chroma bug.

Stacey, do I understand correctly that your former findings were in favour of the Panasonic, but since the new firmware from Oppo, you prefer that player? Secondly, have you had a chance to test the HDI Dune, or the Pioneer 09?

I am seeing this issue; the Radiance is reporting incoming video as YCbCr 4:2:2 but I need to set ENHANCED to see BTB/WTW... DVDs do not look so good from the 55. Their chroma is jaggie. Its not the chroma bug. I also see a lot of combing that I don't recall seeing on an el-cheapo DVD player (probably because the el-cheapo was outputting 480i for the Radiance to deinterlace). Mark

After some more testing, and new FW, OPPO is now the king of video. Again, can I ask why you feel this is? What is it able to extract from the source that other players cannot? Thanks, Mark

DVDs do not look so good from the 55. Their chroma is jaggie. Its not the chroma bug. This has not been a problem with the Panasonic connected to the Radiance as the Radiance addresses / understand the difference colour spaces... The issue with the Radiance is that it is not behaving well in terms of passing audio to the HD621 so I am thinking about re-wiring to put the HD621 in-front of the Radiance..

Agree, as I to see the Radiance reporting that the signal from the Panasonic BD-60 is 4:2:2...that said, I though that you moved back to the Sony..

I have two Radiances used in different systems... the Sony/HD621 is in my Meridian cinema setup and the Panasonic is used with my TV display. Cheers, Marl

Agree, as I to see the Radiance reporting that the signal from the Panasonic BD-60 is 4:2:2 What I am wondering is if something is getting confused. e.g. Panasonic is sending RGB while reporting YCbCr. Or the HD621 thinks it is getting 4:4:4 when it is only getting 4:2:2. Its hard to say for sure. I tested sending 4:2:2, 4:4:4 and RGB from both the VP50Pro and Oppo and there were no problems. As far as Oppo. I think it is the most well rounded player. 1. Speed. Loads faster than a PS3. Only seeking and menu navigation is slower. 2. Its probably one of the best DVD players every made. I used to like SDI out of the RP82, but this bests it. The Oppo 983 was also a good DVD player. 3. It has DVD-A and SACD. You can even get DSD over HDMI, not that it helps anyone on this forum. 4. With an HD621, now all CD players are Meridian. The horizontal chroma resolution of the Oppo now equals Panasonic. The vertical patch is still a bit dimmer. Oppo is pressing their decoder vendor to improve. It may not happen in this gen, but we know it will happen at some point.

As I am confused I would appreciate some clarification...I too like Mark note that the BD-60 is sneding 4:2:2 at least i) as noted by my Radiance and ii) when connected directly to my radiance...
Is the point that you are making that when the DB-60 is connected first to the HD621 and next to the Radaince that the Radiance will now see 4:4:4?
Should the above be correct then would a workaround not be "forcing / telling" the Radiance that it is getting 4:2:2 and, in the event that this is not a workaround, please tell me / us what the workaround is.
Thanks so much.

Is the point that you are making that when the DB-60 is connected first to the HD621 and next to the Radaince that the Radiance will now see 4:4:4? The panasonic is sending 4:2:2 when I go straight into the VP50Pro. I get normal colors, etc... When I go straight into the HD621, I get green. This is a color conversion problem. Something is sending one thing, but its being interpreted or reported as something else as far as I can tell. It is not clear if the problem is inbetween the Pan/HD621 or HD621/downstream. You can try forcing the color space on the Radiance. Try both 4:4:4 and RGB to see what happens. The reason I suspect RGB is because it had been mentioned that the standard / enhanced worked. This should only function in the RGB case. The control has no function for me.

Appreciate the response...
I think, and I could be wrong here, that we are talking about two different solutions/ things in that:
1. You are suggesting forcing / setting the Radiance's colour space to 4:4:4 / RGB because this is what, for lack of a better word, the Radince is seeing coming in...is this correct?
2. Why would I not try to solve the problem by forcing / setting the Radiance's video EDID to 4:2:2 because presumably -- and this does need to be tested -- this would get the HD621 to expect / look for this signal...is this notthe case?
TIA,
