2. "I did a google and it seems that the sample rate of the BRD is 48khz"...see post 91252 of this thread which says that BD disks can be 48KHz and 96 KHz...would be great to find out exactly what my copy of Ironman is as it would add a lot of clarity.

3. "As I understand it, you are correct that the K means the processor is upsampling"...you everyone agrees with that...

"...so that would imply that the HD621 is receiving a 48khz signal and not upsampling it..."...do not agree with this as I can only get a signal from the disk with EDID set to 96KHz which, to m, means that the disk itself is 96KHz which then raises the issue -- what is doing the upsampling (i.e. HD621 or 861) and how is this possible as I did not know that 96 KHz could be upsampled to 192 KHz

Anyways, would be GREAT for someone to DEFINITELY assist/explain the whether in 96K the 96 is input signal or the output signal...

1. I just wanted to confirm that running it through the Radiance or directly to the HD621 doesn't seem to make any difference.

2. The information from the Google turned up a bunch of bit torrent responses and they indicate that the sample rate is 48. I've never dabbled in the "file sharing" world so I am not sure if the information provided in these rips is what was on the original disc.

3. You could be correct but from my experiments with putting the Radiance in front and playing around with the EDIDs, it was all very quirky between the R and the HD621. So I don't trust information that might be gleaned from which settings work in the Radiance. My interpretation of the stream display is that the 96K means that the 68 is upsampling to 96--not that it is upsampling to 192. I could very well be mistaken.

Joel,

Hook up your speakers directly to the HD621 and the yellow light in the speakers will tell you whether they are receiving 88k/96k or not.

Cheers,

Steve

Steve, no can do as I am not running DSPs...those will have to wait until my next house...

I have been in correspondence with Jim Petersen, Lumagen's CEO, and have been advised that (i) the problems that I am experiencing are unique to the HD621 (ii) the problems can not be solved unless he gets his hands on an HD621 and (iii) it is not a certainty that he will get his hands on an HD621...

I am therefore considering putting the HD621 in front of the RadianceXE and am interested in the experience that others have encountered when doing this where yoru experience includes:

a) Audio, is it working properly, is it reliable, are there any issues?

b) Video, is it working properly, is the video switching and HDMI hand shaking realiable and quick, are there any issues?

c) Other. For example, are there any reasons not to do / make this change?

In summary I want to make sure that by re-wring and putting the HD621 in front of the RadianceXE that I am not trading one set of issues / problems for a second set of issues / problems.

TIA for the feedback, help and suggestions.

PS. Did I mention that HDMI is a four letter word...

PS. Did I mention that HDMI is a four letter word...

I went through a similar experience trying to put the Radiance in front--a miserable several days I might add. After now having the HD621 in front (and behind--see below) I can say that:

a. I have not noticed any problems with the audio

b. No problems with handshaking or video

c. The only problem I have now is that I cannot listen to my music server and watch TV at the same time. I have not been able to configure this and I think it is related to the fact that I have a G68J which does not do video switching and the HD621 mconfig does not allow for separate assignments of audio and video inputs (although in my opinion I do not see why it doesn't).

Other points:

1. I might mention that I am running my music server (via coax) into the Radiance and then have HDMI1 out from the Radiance to the HD621 so I can take advantage of the HD621 upsampling for the MS. So I have a loop because I have the HDMI out on the HD621 going into the Radiance. The only precaution I took in this regard was to set the hotplug to always for the input coming from the HD621 into the Radiance to avoid a potential situation where there is a constant re-handshaking problem.

2. I got pretty fed up trying to configure the audio EDIDs in the Radiance when I had it in front of the HD621. Now I just set it to "always" and "userid" which--IIUC--causes the Radiance to pass through the EDID information from the devices to which it is connected. The audio out on the Radiance is set to off for HDMI 2 (to my monitor) and off for coax. I've had no problems at all with this configuration.

Hope this helps.

I have my HD621 before my Radiance with no video or audio problems of any sort. I use a Pioneer 09 Blu-ray and a Dish 612 as inputs currently. I think this is not only more reliable, but audio wise you avoid one more component the audio needs to go through and video wise you are feeding a de-jittered video feed into the Radiance for it to do it's thing.

jack_d, appreciate the feedback...as far as the music server is concerned I have this connected directly to the 861 because (i) I believe that the 861 will eventually get the apodizing filter and, as such, I did/do not think the additional complexity for a short period of time is worth the effort (ii) I rarely listen to music in my home theater room; that is, my music server is used primarily for whole house audio and (iii)I am tired of playing the Radiance's audio EDIDs (i.e. like you it has been a frustrating, long and wasteful gew days)...

mwiebelhaus, apprecaite the feedback as well...

should there be more input along the lines of what you suggest then I will be re-wiring my rack -- yet again -- to put the HD621 in front of the Radiance...

Thanks so much.

Hope you are correct about the 861 upgrade and I also hope that they will make that upgrade available for the 68 as well! I also hope that you are correct that it will not be too much longer before such an upgrade is available.

I have no idea on timing and, although pure speculation, given the similarities between the G68 and 861 I would be surprised were they to do it in one and not the other ignoring physical limitations (i.e. computing power, etc.).

All of you who have been following this thread now know that I will be rewiring my rack so as to put the HD621 in front of the RadianceXE...that said, there is the issue of the VIDEO EDID settings and, to that end, can someone please confirm, which I hope to be the case, that the HD621 acts a pass through vis-a-vis the video EDID parameters/settings that start at the video source and work backwards to the source meaning that inserting the HD621 between the source and the RadianceXE does NOT creat a need to modify the RadianceXEs VIDEO EDID settings...

Thanks so much.

While we are on the topic of setting up the HD621 I redid MConfig last night to accomodate the wiring change so that the HD621 is now infront of the RadianceXE (and yes, I am looking forward to hassle free audio and enjoyment)!

And, in re-configuring my system I noticed a parameter called "Poor Digital Audio Source" which:

-- Can be either checked or unchecked; and

-- Has parameters / values "FIFO" or "XMAS"

Although I have read and re-read the cyrptic -- at least to me -- associated help I am unclear as to the proper setting of this paramter and, to this end, would appreciate someone confirming that the proper setting is

-- Checked (i.e. a tick appearing beside "Poor Digital Audio Source"; and

-- Parametr = FIFO.

A confirmation that this is correct or correction (and explanation) should it not be correct would be greatly appreciated..

TIA

First, checked = XMAS and unchecked = FIFO.
Second, XMAS turns of your FIFO de-jittering which you really don't want to do unless the source is so unstable it won't work with the FIFO buffering.

XMAS = eXternal MASter clock (I think). i.e. Using the jittery bits of the source for the clock. Not recommended.
