Yes, the reason the mod is 4*S/P-DIF out instead of 3 is that the extra cost is pretty neglible - and Meridian *may* make it able for the G68 to handle 7.1 in instead of just the current 5.1. No-one knows for sure if it ever will be done and if it will only be a FW change or a costly(?) HW modification, but this mod is a cheap insurance to be able to utilize those two extra channels in the future.
