jaco - why the interest in a bus solution? sounds intriguing - what would you do with it -vs- a point-to-point solution?

doody.

The card they had running was carrying both audio and video.

I believe when this card comes out, its main purpose is video only. In order to do audio and video, you will either daisy chain or run two outputs. (when I asked, they said you could do both.) I don't believe they are sure which way they are going to go yet.

If it is daisy chained, the 861 would then have a card that has an input and output. It would be a bit more money because it would need both the Silicon Image receiver and transmitter.

Over at the Silicon Image booth, they had it plugged into a Panasonic with HDMI. They cable run was 25 meters.

Stacey,
You are soo correct about the average consumer. My reaction to all this SACD / DVD-A winning a format war is: both dont matter to the mass market and offer nothing compelling to the mass market. MLP does offer something compelling- an improved compression scheme in terms of sound quality.

MP3- my take on this is as everyone else but I find a kind of poetic justice in that the record companies admitted to gouging the consumer for years and now they are getting their just disserts. I am all in favor of their fully protecting their IP, but Im not in a fan of these non CD compliant discs nor gouging us. As far as Im concerned, they can stop making new CDs right now. I already have all the good music I could want and I legally bought it and I also have it all ripped at 320kps and will re-rip it into the 880 when it arrives............ (well, not all of it, and not all with MLP, some music can get ripped at the higher compression of MP3)

Best regards,
Jerry

I would not speciffic be interested in a bus system. But a bus would be more economic/Easy than multiple point to point connections i think.
You could just connect - DVD player, amplifier, projector. If you would have a digital recording device, plug it in between the the amp and the projector.
This scenme avoids having 2 inputs on a projector. But disadvantage might be the copy protection issue.

Well, since i still have a CRT projector, i do not need to worry about a HDMI input.. My 800's component output into a Holo3D and than with RGBHV to my CRT works just fine.
