John:
Appreciate your response but have two quick follow ups:
1. For a Blu-Ray player that is a) being added to an HD621 and 861 combination and b) will only be used for Blu-Ray movies would be safe to use only the "PCM 5.1 96.0 Khz" EDID or is there a need for others? The EDID sets the upper limits -- anything below will work ;-) 2. When M finally releases MMHR connection card for the 861 would in then be appropriate to change the HD621 "Linear PCM" setting from 6 to 8 because, at that point, the 861 will be able to accept 8 discrete channels. Probably so, but I can't say that with absolute certainty until something like that exists.

PLIIx is Dolby technology. So, seeing Dolby on DTS material is just wierd for me-phsycologically. DTS is just a delivery format. Once the bitstream is decoded to multi-channel PCM you can do anything you like with it. This is a useful doc: http://www.Meridian-audio.com/568/V4_presets_usage.pdf

I now have a working set up for the HD621 but something seems to be amiss because my G68 always goes to the Trifield DSP, which I have it set to do only when it receives two-channel music. For multi-channel movies it should switch to cinema DSP but it doesn't. Nor does it switch to discrete for multi-channel music which is in the configuration. Seems like it is only receiving two channels.
The HD621 is after my Radiance XD. For the time being I have one physical source in my configuration called "audio" going to the HD621 and no phantom sources. All the video/audio switching takes place in the Radiance so I only use HDMI 1 on the HD621.
The coax connections are to MD1
Anyone have a suggestion?
thx

How is everyone, with DSP speakers, wiring the comms of the HD621? It has one DIN and one BNC. Right now mine is not wired in and I have it set to manual for input 1. Does Meridian make a DIN to BNC adapter?
I have also noticed that when the audio is 96/24, the 861 will use a music DSP for a source.

It can be very tricky sorting out Comms , especially if , like me , you have a mix of Speakerlink and DIN components . I needed the AC11 unit
http://www.Meridian-audio.info/public/ac11-guide-ds-a4%5B600%5D.pdf
even though it does not appear in mConfig which recommended I use 511 which was incompatible !
In this Speakerlink document they do say :
" The simple answer is to cut the existing DIN connectors off and replace them with BNC connectors for the Meridian Comms lines. If this is not possible for some reason, we can help by supplying DIN-to-BNC adaptors. Contact Tech Support for assistance "

At the moment there is little if any movie material recorded ( or at least released commercially ) at 24/96 . Its probably set up to assume that its music content at that rate . So far , any movie Bd has set the processor to Cinema and any concert BD ( eg. John Mayer ' Where the light is ' ) sets 'Discrete ' You can always toggle between them via remote if you want to . ~M~

Is the HD621 transforming all these signals to 24/96? If so, why would it do that? Is that the highest resolution that the 68 handles? Is there any way I can tell what signal the 68 is receiving? Thanks for any help.

Why would it do that? Did you come up with a workaround? Sure, I have three sources setup. CD, DVD and TV. CD has a music DSP set for each of the four options. The DVD and TV both have movie presets for all four options. At the moment there is little if any movie material recorded ( or at least released commercially ) at 24/96 . More and more are released every day. I was wondering if this occurs because I don't have comms setup between the HD621 and 861. I guess I can cut a comms cable and add a BNC to it.

If set up that way , HD621 will upsample sources to 88.2/96khz . If your Bluray is outputting 5.1 it should normally select Cinema preset ( Discrete at worst ) .
See manual page 6 :
" Up/downsampling of digital audio
The MMHR and SmartLink outputs can be set to deliver either standard (44.1/48 kHz) or high resolution (88.2/96 kHz) sample rate digital audio, with resolution enhancement of up to 24-bit. When set to standard rates, the output is either 44.1 or 48 kHz irrespective of the input rate, high sample rates being downsampled by a factor of two or four as appropriate. 44.1 and 48 kHz rates are unchanged.
When set to high rates, the output is always either 88.2 or 96 kHz, irrespective of the input rate. Standard sample rates are upsampled by a factor of two using Meridian`s powerful DSP technology, so that input signals of 44.1 and 48 kHz are output at 88.2 and 96 kHz respectively "

I think I'm only getting 2 channels of input because the multi-channel DSPs are not available on the G68 when I scroll through the options with the remote.
Not sure what is the problem at this point.
I made the connection to MD1 so I assume that the coax connections between the HD621 and G68 should be:
1/2 to L/R (Multi digital 2) 3/4 to C/LFR (MD digital 4) 5/6 to Surr (MD digital 6)
Any other thoughts? thx
