Joel:

I will admot that I do not fully understand the EDID set6upwith the audio portion of the RadianceXE as I find the menu ssettings / structure very confusing...that said, and I may change my mind, I am thinking of putting the HD621 in front of the RadianceXE because of (i) the number and (ii) the prolonged duration of the audio issues that are appearing on the Lumagen forum...quite frnkly, these concern / scare me...

All that said, a WIKI or posting from a helpful individual explaining the EDID setting within the RadianceXE could / would get me to reconsider...are you volunteering...

Not exactly. I will say that the Radiance's HDMI audio handling seems (to me) to be pretty good now. The changes in firmware in the last couple of months have improved things considerably.

I have an 861, Pioneer BDP-09FD, Lumagen Radiance, and a Runco PJ. Is there a right way and a wrong way in connecting and setting up my HD621? I would have assumed that the HD621 would have been the first connection after the Bluray. Is this correct? Also are there any particular settings that I need to look at?

Thanks,
Ken

You want to put the HD621 after a video processor. Modern video processors, like the VP50/50Pro, have an audio delay feature that is adaptive. It changes the amount of audio delay based on the video processing.

What this means is that lipsync will be more difficuilt to maintain with the HD621 before the video processor.

Of course an HDMI splitter might make the most sense, assuming they work.

I agree with you Stacey, but I have it on good authority that Meridian is recommending putting the HD621 first...

So this won't affect the audio going into the Lumagen first then?

Thanks,
Ken

That is what I heard from Mothership in the UK... the exact info. Great info VK! Also, I heard that an unexpected benefit is the picture is also slightly improved with HD621 rather than without. Not sure if that is noticable to anyone?

I'm happy that a switcher doesn't degrade the PQ. I haven't done any PQ comparisons with source->PJ vs source->HD621->PJ. On another note, I recieved the Spears and Munsil Blu-Ray today so I will try it out smile

I've been running an Oppo 980, Tosh XA1 (HD DVD) and PS3 into my Radiance which then feeds a modified CLUX. [kissofdeath]I'm experiencing no problems with this at the moment, in fact it sounds fantastic.[/kissofdeath]. One other thing to note is that Jim Peterson (CEO of Lumagen) is an audiophile.

For the CES 2007 Q&A session, I asked the following question:

And got this reply:

That's good enough for me. I was reasonably ahead of the curve on this one, even if I do say so myself. smile

I know this is going to sound redundant, but you are saying that you are first going into the Lumagen and then into the HD621. Correct?

Thanks again,
Ken

Yes, though I don't have a HD621 - I have a modified CLUX11-SA which achieves the same end result (though without the de-jittering/re-conditioning). I switch in the Radiance and use one of its two HDMI outputs to feed the CLUX.

I wonder if it makes a difference the order as Meridian says that the Bluray should go directly into the HD621, strip the audio, and then on to the Lumagen. The person at Meridian didn't know the Lumagen piece but he generically said the scaler should go after the HD621.
