I think the price of the Edge is awesome Gary, considering we are looking at $1100 for a standard edge over here in the UK anyway. I guess I would go sources-421-edge-568.2mm and Pioneer plasma and use only one input on the Edge. I just don't want another remote in the system. I bought a Harmony 885 so I guess I might just have to get that out the packet and give it a whirl.

I wish the Edge had RS232 is the only thing, it does have a hardwired IR so maybe a RS232 to IR from Xantech would work, but that is more $$$
I might ask Shawn if his UT unit could talk to the Edge via RS232 to IR
the Edge will make SD sources look alot better, with underscan, y/c delay correction, chroma bug correction, edge enhancement(which acts as block NR in the negative), detail enhancement, mosquito NR, contrast(to reduce clipping of whites), hue, all sorts of aspect ratio correction, conversion from component to HDMI
my passion and specialty is video and I will be here to help anyone with setting up video sources with the best setting, you need only ask
thanks

What does the Edge do for HD satellite and Blu-ray. Does it just act as a pass-through.

For HD satellite you get 1080i deinterlacing (to 60p or 24p) and also PReP for 720p (works at 1080p too, but it's unlikely BD will need this) channels like Fox/ABC so that the 60p for films can be converted back to 24p. Even though we now know we need the Geffen device (which I asked about earlier in the thread, due to the CLUX needing it) for the Edge, I'm still quite excited about it BTW I just checked Gefen's website and the HDMI Detective only needs power while programming the EDID (which Gary may do for us anyway) and not when it regular use, and so no extra power socket is used up That's my major gripe sorted!

What does the Edge do for HD satellite and Blu-ray. Does it just act as a pass-through. can do anything you want, all processing works for everything, if you want to bypass it you can set everything to mid point for HD satellite I always turn on a low MNR and put edge enhancement around -10, finally I tweak the colors and contrast/brightness and turn detail enhancement on about +4 the Edge will do the best deinterlacing available in the world(ABT is considered by me to be the best deinterlacing, Lumagen is often considered the best scaling), so if you have DVHS and feed the Edge 1080i, you can do 1080p or 720p out and have the best image possible we are also forgetting one major thing here, the Edge will correct the 8 channel PCM data with lip sync adjustment, so you can perfectly match all sources to the video, none of these other devices do this Edge also contains a test pattern generator at whatever output resolution you use framrate conversion as well, input any film source even SD DVD at 480i and the Edge will do 1080/24 output you can also select your output colorpsace and the unit does perfect RGB to 444 etc, type conversions, DVI sources will not be crushed when connected into the Edge and output as HDMI even has game mode processing for sub 1 frame delays while playing video games, eliminates controller lag I could go on and on!! thanks

The EDGE won't do PReP for 720p as it can only find the interlaced signal that was there in the first place, as there is no 720i signal.
But it will do wonders for all the 480 and 576 material.
Adding a processor also makes a hell of a difference for your HD sources too, until you see how much they can add it is hard to imagine.

So PRep doesn't convert back the 24->60 that films (and many TV shows) are converted to when shown on 720p channels?

Ok,
I'm now on the fence. I originally was going the modded Oppo BD83 route but the modded Edge is intriguing. I know nothing about video processing. I have a 2 year old 1080i Pioneer plasma and watch mainly sat (Dish Network) tv and DVD's. The Oppo will take care of my DVD needs so will the Edge add anything significant to the little sd tv I watch? What about my 1080i hd?

Ken, makes it all look better sir, simple as that
gives you the ultimate video capability, in fact the only thing this Edge lacks compared to the DVDO VP50pro is HD-SDI inputs, RS232, RGBHV outputs, a few less video adjustments and custom output resolution capability, uses the same chip inside
I am working on adding HD-SDI to the Edge as another mod, but that is down the road
thanks

well, i am still up for it so far. i have 5 sources using HDMI and it is sounding like a great way of solving a potential problem.
