James, I expect to start the powerbuy this coming thursday or friday

some details:

-normal price 1199$, if I hit 10+ units the price goes to 1125$, if I hit 20 units the price goes to 1049$, 25 units is max for this powerbuy(between those that have expressed interest and those that have contacted me, it looks like around 12 already before we start, so if you want one better get it, otherwise you will have to wait until I do this again wink )

-I will accept orders from anywhere in the world, the Edge ships with 100-240v capability so anyone can use it out of the box including Japan, also PAL and NTSC capable obviously

-I will post full pics of the actual unit before the sale starts

-I am adding 4 dedicated RCA outputs instead of using stock connectors

-I am going to offer a set of the best digital coaxial PCM interconnects (4 x 3ft) that money can buy for 75$ to the buyers, these will be handmade by me from Belden and Canare gear

-if 25 units are sold, 5 of the people that purchased the interconnects get selected for a set of them free of charge

-overseas shipping will be 75$ via USPS EMS (5 days), customs are claimed as repaired/modified goods which usually have little or no duties due

-US Postal MO(US only), paypal and bank transfer as payment types accepted

-lastly I am going to provide a long list of references so people can feel safe dealing with me and my company

any questions please ask away

thanks

I wonder if there are specifications for the Meridian MMHR that can be used to build a MMHR compatible interface as per the HD621 rather than using 4xspdif out?

Now that the HD621 is out, 4 x SPDIF is looking unlikely to be supported by M processors in 8 channel mode as it looks as if MMHR via RJ45/TP is now the new standard.

It may be that MMHR is simply 4xSPDIF over CAT5 and that a simple cable can be built, but it may be more complicated than that and it may well be that this unit can never support 8 channel discreet into an M processor.

I doubt it Ian. I'm willing to bet that MMHR will be a combination of MHR encryption technology and multiplexing technology. The digital audio signal will undoubtedly be sent down a single twisted pair and will have been designed to handle more than eight channels.

Gary

Put me down as an interested party please. Look forward to seeing the pics. of the modified unit. Is it your intention to use different colour connectors on your cables? (easier for correct connection when back of G68 not so easily accessible)

Rod, I can color code the RCA connectors and matching cables if it makes it easier for folks, whatever you guys want

also, if the RJ45 connection is just a simple balanced signal connector for all 8 PCM channels of audio then I can certainly make a device with that output or maybe a 4 X SPDIF to RJ45 converter

this would mean each of the 4 PCM signals would have a +/- balanced connection and ground, not a big problem

if it is proprietary however then of course I couldn't do it, my guess however is that there will be a simple 8 channel data path(4 x +/- signals) and ground, if so then I can do it for you guys no problem at all

all I would need is the RJ45 pinout that Meridian uses, standalone box would probably be best

thanks

My understanding is that the MMHR RJ45 is a proprietary connection with all eight channels being multiplexed over two of the CAT5 leads.

I could well be wrong but I would bet it uses 4 Pairs. Only because it would be easier to mix and match hardware and software with SpeakerLink that only uses one pair per pair of channels. Less to reinvent too.

ok, so just being a simple fellow, can we say that - as it stands the DVDO scaler with the mod is reasonably future proof but the only way of confirming this is is to understand how the new speakerlink cable connects?
