I had the same problem . IE42 occupied with 598 and HD621 so had to get ID20 ( 2 Toslink + 2 Coax ) for other sources . Really is a bit remiss of M not to clarify things for customers . We all know RJ45 input card is imminent now and this will free up IE42 again presumably ? I could have held fire on the ID20 or even the IA45 before that but then I wouldn't have had access to Lossless for the last couple of years and I've just given up expecting any kind of meaningful roadmap from M anymore And I've never heard whether my kit has been registered or not either ! Thank God the sound is immaculate though ! ~M~

Ado, the answer is yes. You have to "type" it. The factory programs in various stock settings so for example a "type 1" could be a setup with small speakers and a sub with a cross over of 80hz. The bad news is Im not at home and dont have access to the manuals and I dont remember how to "retype" a processor. If you look in your instruction manual you may find it. You also may get stuck where I did at one point if the manual refers to an up arrow- I thought they meant the up arrow on the processor, well they don't, they mean the volume up button. At last thats how I remember it.
Best regards, Jerry Main System: 861v6, DSP8000s in corners, DSP7000s Center and Sides, 1-9 humans.

The 861v4's IE42 card has two multi-channel digital inputs. Of course, if that is the only digital input card you have, that only leaves you with a single optical input for other sources. The lack of a 3xSPDIF pass-thru on the HD621 seems inceasingly like a notable omission. Perhaps one can infer that a RJ45 MMHR input card is coming sooner rather than later and will complement, rather than replace, the existing IE42 inputs. Fingers crossed!

Jerry, Thanks for your reply. Via my dealer I was supported by M tech support and I am up and running. The workaround was to load the config to the HD621 separately and have another file for my G91A-G68ADV combination. So far so good. By the time I finished the room correction calibration etc it was pretty late last night but managed to listen to a BD Audio disk from a Norweign HD audio catalogue called "2L" ( www.2l.no) titled "The Nordic Sound - 2L Audiophile reference recordings". It is actually a 2 disc set (SACD and BD - see specs below) but I don't have a SACD player but the BD audio sounds amazing in a 5.1 format. With my PS3 I can relatively seamlessly switch between the audio tracks (one for each recording format). In the 5.1 formats, the front display on the G68 just shows it as MHR Music6 96K after being processed by the HD621 (somewhat less satisfying than being shown as DTS-HD MA 5.1 but I can get over it). With the debugging menu active in the MConfig file I can also scroll through other information screens but can't exactly determine what they each are telling me. Will listen more seriously over the weekend...also think that the soon to be formally released Oppo BD player could be very interesting (and hopefully less noisy than my PS3). I am somewhat confused and please forgive my ignorance but would someone please clarify a few things for me: 1)If I use a Bluray player that decodes all the new HD audio codecs in the player and I send the audio out via PCM using the HD621 and connect it to my 861v4 with 3xSPDIF via the IE42 card I will be able to play all the new HD audio formats--Correct? 2)What happens if I insert a SD DVD into my Bluray player-- will I need to go into the menu and bitstream the audio out to hear DD or DTS OR will it play with the Bluray player set to decode the audio and sending the audio out PCM? (since it is being stated in above posts that the HD621 doesn't pass through plain DD and DTS). 3)What about Direct TV -- I have an HD receiver with a digital coax output and an optical output-- If I connect it to the HD621 using HDMI only will it output 5.1 audio also in DD ( again the pass through issue) or does it need to be connected with the optical output or coax output instead? 4)Do all the above (1,2 and 3)get upsampled or only number 1 or non of the above. Thanks Joe

(since it is being stated in above posts that the 621 doesn't pass through plain DD and DTS). Probably. My blu player outputs PCM from DVD but I guess other players may not behave the same. On the other hand, the reports that the HD621 cannot pass through DD/DTS are incorrect - it *CAN*. 3)What about Direct TV -- I have an HD receiver with a digital coax output and an optical output-- If I connect it to the 621 using HDMI only will it output 5.1 audio also in DD ( again the pass through issue) or does it need to be connected with the optical output or coax output instead? Again, no issue with pass through. 4)Do all the above (1,2 and 3)get upsampled or only number 1 or non of the above. Only PCM gets upsampled, DD/DTS get passed through. Cheers, Mark

Yep, the HD621 is pretty flxible in some respects (except connectivity) - the only thing you can't achieve with the vanilla formats is Meridian decoding and upsampling.

Thank you Mark_H for your reply Still 2 points are unclear-- 1) do I need to change the Bluray player to bitstream out OR stay with PCM for SD DVD played via a Bluray player AND 2)for the Direct Tv HD receiver do I just connect it via HDMI only OR use the coax or optical out. Thanks again Joe

If your player can seperate PCM vs Bitstream on DD/DTS vs TrueHD/DTS MA then according to mark either Bitstream or PCM should work with the HD621 and would be great way to compare how much the apodizing upsampler in HD621 helps over the processor decoding. Try it both ways.
If your player does seperate the option I'm curious what player you have.
On PS3 once you tell it to send PCM over HDMI it ignores all other options.

Do we now have the opportunity to now listen to SACD through the HD621 PCM'ed to the 861 in 96/24 surround and 2 channel from the new Oppo 83 player? If so we have the best of both worlds DVDA and SACD.
