I don't recall how the 568 all works but it might be that it doesn't quite handle the commands to switch like a G68/861.

You may have to create a phantom 2 channel device for the PS3 to force it to switch to 2 channel sourced Trifield.

"However if i play some two channel music from the PS3 hard drive be it PCM or MP3 it stays in Movie6=Cinema. "

The PS3 sends ripped CDs as 6 channels even though only 2 channels are active.

Thanks Shawn that makes sense. George given Shawn's info can what you suggest still be done?

Thanks

Yes, but again I forget how 568.2mm with 2.5 beta works as far as phatom sources go but I think it works very close to how G68/861 now work (that was part of the beta).

I describe how to do it in the Wiki for the G68

I just checked with the legacy config program and aside from digital inputs D1-4. There is also D5-7(never noticed before!)So i just need to setup a phantom source with D5-7 as the input. Can i safely assume the D5 input is for the front L/R channels? Can anyone confirm:
D5= Front L/R
D6= Sub/Centre
D7= Surrounds

Once again thanks George.

Hi Thomas

The 568.2mm wasn't designed for groups of coax digital inputs to be used for multichannel; the VGA connector is the only route for that. When you specify an input in the legacy programme, they are single inputs, so you'd need to choose D5, 6 or 7 as there is no way to assign them as a group of three together.

Hope that clarifies things.

Cheers

George

Have taken delivery of a G68ADV and HD621 but having configuration issues in combining with G91A and other sources. This thread has been really helpful but I still have some issues with which M/dealer is trying to help me.

Is it possible to reset an M component back to factory settings (specifically for a G91A)?

On a happier note, in the process of trying to debug the configuration, I did stop to watch some of The Dark Knight and could switch on my PS3 fairly seamlessly between DD-HD and DD off the same Blu-Ray disc. There is greater depth and clarity from the DD-HD vs DD but have not yet had time to settle down and give it a proper hearing (excuse the pun) and note observations.

In addition, not sure how much is due to my improved set-up (e.g. 900MIPS of additional surround sound processing) although in switching between DD-HD and DD that is irrelevant. Hopefully over the weekend I can happily play more...

Does the HD621 "fold" the extra surrounds from a 7.1 soundtrack into the 5.1 avalable surrounds that an 861 accepts, or, do you set the player to fold those, sending the HD621 a 5.1 signal with the extra two channels already matrixed?

You set the player to output 5.1.

Hi George,

Actualy selecting multichannel or smartlink (I forget what it is called in the config program) you do bundle all three (D5-D7) together. So you can setup a phantom source for one SPDIF input or three together.

Will the HD621 work for me? ...

I use an 800 with HDMI for DVDs, and a Denon Bluray for Bluray discs.

The HD621 manual says to connect the three Smartlink/MHR outputs from the 800 directly to the 861 (which is how it is currently connected) ...

But if I do that then there's no Smartlink/MHR input left on the 861 to handle the Smartlink/MHR output from the HD621's Denon feed.

What am I missing here?

The 861v4's IE42 card has two multi-channel digital inputs. Of course, if that is the only digital input card you have, that only leaves you with a single optical input for other sources.
