Good post mwiebelhaus.
I agree that the focus should be on frequencies 200Hz and below. What we are after is room correction, not speaker correction.
I saw the TacT units at CEDIA and concluded that if I bought one, I'd never listen to music. I'd simply futz with the settings to see if a .25db boost at 827Hz or a .50db cut a 2.256Khz sounded better. I don't want to design speakers, I want to listen to music.
I've got a couple of room anomolies that all the ASC and similar products simply can't fix. They are a funtion of the room dimensions. This is what we need help with.
There is software out there which will tell you where to place your speakers to minimize the effect of standing waves. Unfortunately, the resulting suggested locations usually don't correspond to the best location for soundstaging, etc., not to mention practical consideration which mitigate against putting your sub in the doorway or you main speakers 3/4s of the way out in the room.
Besides, keeping it simpler keeps the cost down and makes it and easier to use - not to mention getting it to market quicker.
Since I don't have an 861, I wonder if it could be sold as an outboard 500 series component as well, perhaps as an alternative to a 562V.2.
