I always have problems when using DVI, it always seems to force RGB PC levels.
I will say however that I have never had a problem with HDMI, been using Panny commercial panels and Pioneer Kuros along with Crystalio scalers, both the I and II.
I don't get what you mean by your lip sync issues?? What issues are you having??
No Darling, I've had it months!

joel may chip in here aswell as hes also running one ( or was ) I always held the firmware back to 2.2 so that it would pass YCbCr to the ProHDP. Later firmwares broke that. With the Radiance/HD621 in the loop I can only get 480p out of the machine, regardless of EDID settings. Also, this morning the player fried so it's dead now. The HD-XE1 seems to work ok. The HDMI handshaking is a nightmare - multiple switches as the players start, then again as the discs start. Often I'm getting the wrong colourspace out and find it impossible to correct without shutting everything down again. Very frustrating. Mark

I will say however that I have never had a problem with hdmi, been using Panny commercial panels and Pioneer Kuros along with Crystalio scalers, both the I and II. Nothing but problems for me today. As I note above, multiple handshakes occur from starting the player to starting the film and it seems very hit and miss as to whether the correct colourspace ends up getting used. And once RGB ends up as the colourspace it's very hard to recover - even switching sources to and fro doesn't resolve things. *VERY FRUSTRATING* Sources: Tosh HD-XE1 Sony BDP-S550 (US) Sony BDP-S350 (UK) All to the HD621 then onwards to the Radiance and then onwards to a Projection Design Optix projector I have on demo. I don't get what you mean by your lip sync issues?? What issues are you having?? The issue I've always had previously with the Radiance in a Meridian digital system is that the Radiance is so fast at video processing that the video arrives before the audio and there's no way to correct lipsync. With PCM output through the HD621 that has changed. Audio is now arriving before video and I can correct the lipsync once again, making the Radiance now viable in my system. One configuration I have yet to try is the HD621 after the Radiance but I'm worried about lipsync issues by handing the video off to the Radiance before audio processing even starts but also possible audio degradation from passing the PCM streams through the Radiance and onto the HD621. Many of us have no video processing which would be faster than your radience why don't we have lipsync issues.
I feel your pain on HDMI. Adding clux you can see it doing more hand shakes (i.e. flash of all green and takes longer). Once in a great while sound is missing channels and I have to restart. It's also sensitive to the order things turn on. And I have no video processor.

I wonder what generation of HDMI the HD621 uses ( 1.3a,b ?? ) Doesn't get mentioned in the User Guide .

Many of us have no video processing I sincerely doubt that. It's rare for a display not to have or need video processing of some nature even if you're feeding it 1080p24. And chances are display interfaces are slower than dedicated video processors. My Cineo projector is one of the few I know that has no internal video processor, but I of course have to use the video processor to do the work for it. which would be faster than your radience why don't we have lipsync issues.[quote]
Who knows.

Where things start to fall apart is when swapping multiple discs for testing. That initiates full handshakes as the refresh rates change and that is causing problems. Bah. Mark

I seem to have botched the attributions, I'm not sure if Mark_H or Neil W said this: The HDMI handshaking is a nightmare - multiple switches as the players start, then again as the discs start. Often I'm getting the wrong colourspace out and find it impossible to correct without shutting everything down again. HDCP is independent of DVI / HDMI. They both have the handshaking. The problem is that in my experience, until you're getting to HDMI 1.2 and higher on everything things haven't worked very cleanly. The fact that you have a quite complex path to the display is not doing you any favors. Each junction (source / Radience), (Radience / HD621), (HD621 / Display) is a spot where issues can creep in. It is my opinion that your antiquated display (DVI is soooo 5 years ago) is a big part of the problem.

It is my opinion that your antiquated display (DVI is soooo 5 years ago) is a big part of the problem. Except that right now I'm demoing a brand new PD Optix projector with HDMI 1.3a input... When that goes back this week I'll revert to my antiquated DVI projector for a while. I guess I can expect things to get even worse! *OUCH* Cheers, Mark

How much delay does a Merdian digital system add then? I'm intrigued by this.

How much delay does a Merdian digital system add then? I'm intrigued by this. Don't know the exact figure but a generalisation would be: more and more There's a propogation race taking place between video (speed of light + processing) and audio (speed of sound + processing) and video must not arrive before the audio does or you cannot currently correct the lipsync. Meridian, being a complex digital system will add delay to the audio stream while it's processed. Distance settings will add further delays. DSP speakers have delays added so that all speakers are in sync. The unpacking of lossless codecs in the players to create lossy versions for delivery to the processors for unpacking again and processing will cause delays. Meanwhile the video is already at the display... In the past audio processing was much faster than video processing so this was never an issue but with the Radiance things went the other way. Lumagen have committed to adding a video delay to the Radiance to help this issue out. Mark

Mark,
Plug your sources into the Radiance. It will likely help your handshake issues greatly.
