Advice for a perfect world aside, let's face it, we have unrealistic expectations.

Well Meridian has produced a HD HD621 manual....which is great....but unfortunately differs...from what I can comprehend....from what I was told...particularly as connecting to the 861....hopefully for $3K they have the kinks worked out

Can we keep this thread on topic please.

OK, that's fine - but Meridian have established an expectation that they're going to do these Q&A sessions. Agree with you that they have no obligation to do so, but if they agree to do it then either do it in some reaonable timeframe or don't do it at all.

Well you may get your wish as I can't honestly see M wanting to do it again in the future due to all the whinging. It also goes for another factory visit - we have probably blown a change of that one too.

One of the points of asking for customer feedback is to hear about problems that you do not perceive yourself. There is little purpose to getting annoyed if some apparent shortcomings are raised by this process. Responding to questions and problems is the best way to defuse them.

Whilst Bob and others are in favour of both Q&A sessions and another HH visit, this view is not universally shared at HQ.

So be it! It's just a pet peeve of mine that if somebody says there going to do something, then do it. If you don't have time then don't agree to do it in the first place.

I suppose, at the end of the day, it really matters not one way or the other. But for me, as an early-adopter, some insight into intended future capabilities helps to encourage 'taking a flyer' on a new piece of kit like the HD621. Without some assurance that there will be an additional MMHR input coming for my 861, I'll simply hang onto my $$ and wait and see.

I think that Bob and John giving so much time and effort to the Q&A sessions makes crystal clear that Meridian, and Meridian ownership, is special.

But let us also be clear that these sessions not only give Meridian valuable commercial feedback, they also provide information to customers that would otherwise have to be provided through other channels. To draw attention to the shortcomings of handbooks, data sheets etc. is not whingeing. It is actually helpful to all parties. If we did not wish Meridian well we would not hand over our money; nor would we spend time here (I know there have been some who seemed to have other loyalties; and some who are a bit pathological; but I am talking about the vast majority of members who generously share their knowledge and help us all enjoy Meridian products).

I'm not making the comments about handbooks, missed release goals and contradictory marketing blurb, its people going on about how long its taking for the Q&A to come back to us that is p***ing me off. As I said in my earlier post, some people have made good points and M probably know that they get a D- for documentation. M have been like that for as long as I have known them, which is probably why techie people end up with M kit so we can fathom out how it works. Its peoples comments about expecting to see roadmaps and future technology releases and keep hikingon about it that are imho, unnecessary, especially when one of the people concerned is a fellow member of this forum and the company concerned are one of the most open and honest companies that I have ever dealt with. If people have a specific query, just picked up the phone and asked M at HQ UK direct and they will get a direct and honest answer. Its not unknown to be approached by M staff without even contacting them, and this goes right to the very top. That is A+ service. I am sorry, but much as people may have a investment in kit with this company, it does not make us shareholders with an automatic right to know and influence the future plans of the company.

The bit about handbooks and marking blurb just goes to show that M are technology led - I know very few good technology orientated people that can write good user friendly manuals and marketing blurb. And as for meeting expected release dates, I have been in many a situation where a release date has not been known until the morning of the release and predicting release dates, especially where 3rd parties are involved, is incredibly difficult. Not withstanding the situations where a higher priority request has just come in and the original project gets put on indefinite hold.

How about the Moderator posting a sign at the top of the forum - No Whining Allowed. Whining diverts our attention from the good and sucks the air right out of the forum. As with most things in life, for me Meridian is a glass half full.
