So did you get the Duet just for the new controller? Can you use it for both the Duet and the SB3? I have another system in the house and I think it would be cool to have access to all my music there too. So I was thinking about getting the Duet which will give me a controller.

You can use Duet to control both. Thing that's nice about the Duet is it can control the Meridian too over IR (I personally have no experience with that though).

George do you think the Transporter is worth the extra money? Do you have any 24/96k music files? That would be nice...to purchase some 24/96k music downloads and be able to use it this way. Although 24/48k would be fine with me.

As George said you can use the Controller for the Receiver (Duet), SB3, Transporter and even Squeezepaly running on a computer. I bought the Duet because at the time you couldn't buy the Controller separately. Now you can.

I'm thinking of getting the Transporter as I have a lot 24/96 (and 88) files but also because I like the form factor (and the fact that I have a big gap in my Hi Fi rack.)

Seems like a lot of money just to get 88k/96k sampling unless you will be using the DAC and driving an amplifier with it. Does Squeezecenter down sample 24/96k to 24/48k when playing back 96k files? If that is the case the Duet and SB3 are good enough for me.

Yes, SC downsamples via a Sox application. I agree the Transporter is expensive and it hasn't dropped in price much

I got a really really good deal on it. I think it was $1200.00 new. For that price I find it very much worth it. I have SACD's at (24/88.2), some 24/96 DVD-A and 24/96 DVD (all 2 channel). I Like the extra display and the over all build. I also believe the back end is all FPGA's or CPLD chips and the designer was actually able to change the clocking design to support 88.2 where it was never originally designed for that. That really impressed me that it's a great design and they seem to be actively still working it.

I don't have a Duet controller yet but will probably get one soon.

You mentioned before you have rips (?) of SACD at 24/88.2. How did you make those? Connect your CLUX to a digital input on your PC? Or is there some software I am not aware of ...

Glad to hear you've taken the jump. I'd agree with George that dBpoweramp is pretty good for ripping and cataloguing. I did the vast majority of nearly 20,000 with EAC but am enjoying using DBP since December. MP3tag is worth finding to if you haven't already.

Others here have used iTunes also. I'm not a fan of that so much (niggly things mainly).

Will be interested to see how you enjoy the accessibility of the music given that you are a man that has taken great lengths to build and tune your listening space.

Now that squeezecenter 7.3.2 supports automatic downsampling of 96kHz FLAC to 48kHz when streaming to the Squeezebox 3 using SoX, I'm curious if anyone knows anything about sox's internal algorithms and how good of a job it does when downsampling.

Also, were I to pursue feeding true 24/96 into my 568.1, am I correct that my options are limited to:

1) Buy a transporter
2) Setup a PC with appropriate sound card that will output 24/96
3) Burn the 24/96 FLAC files to a DVD and use my 596 for playback

Any other options I'm overlooking?
