I did take the opportunity to talk to one of the Meridian guys about a problem I have experienced with the slot loading mechanism causing lines of fine abrasions on the discs, where the pinch rollers had been gripping the discs prior to being removed on ejection. He said that it was a problem that had been reported and was due to dust collecting on the rollers. It seems they have a developed a disc with a felt like covering that can be 'played' and clean the rollers. He said that the dealers should be able to perform that operation - or there was a chance that Meridian might send the disc direct if I get in touch. I find this quite astonishing. The one thing most people fear about slot loading drives is damage to their discs. Unless I've read this wrong, M is essentially saying that routine maintenance is required. One more reason to rip CDs and hide them away...

I agree. This is shocking news. If Meridian knew there was a problem then why have they not warned us? Does this come under duty of care? Surely they should now make their special disc available without charge to all owners of Meridian slot-load equipment?

Many years ago I had a kenwood CD changer in a car with rollers for loading the discs. It was so "aggressive" it actually would peel discs apart from the marketing material/track list information on the disc surface after a number of loads/unloads. Admitadly kenwood fixed it and at the time CD's weren't as well made (well that's what they told me). But it's put me off rollers for life.

That's a lot of F80 owners... . . . and a lot of damaged CDs and alienated Meridian owners!

Oh dear. I had no intention of causing alarm and eruptions, in fact I very unsure whether to post at all.
Please bear in mind that it was a conversation with just one of the Meridian staff and can't be taken as representing the views of the company. Also it is possible that I have got things arse about face.
It also might well be due to the amount of dust originally on my discs and the amount of dust in my home, and it might nor affect most users.
Also, if you haven't noticed any faint straight marks on the surface of the discs then you don't have a problem.

It's reasons like this Meridian refuses to post on this board.
Everything they say gets bent out of shape so they stop communicating.

I can perfectly understand and sympathise with them not wanting to get embroiled in a forum which could involve a lot of wasted time with rival company plants and crackpots (sorry if that sounds offensive).
So, why don't they use their beautiful new website (no sarcasm intended) for some authoritative statements? That way they spread information and understanding and squash harmful rumours.

I have not had any Disc trouble with my F80 and people seem to do all right with discs "incar". It may be a one off issue and as regards the F80, I dont think a draw system would fit. Cheers, Chris
No 18 in the Hall of fame I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best: GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone

Two people on other Forums were claiming that the D8k Pair on display at Bristol were Listing at 45,000 per pair!!!
These obviously include the Apodizing Filter and Speakerlink, but not too many other changes I believe??
The June 2008 UK Price List has the D8k's at 30,000 (where they have been pitched for several years now)
Does anyone here know if this new D8k Price is Correct or in Error??

I would expect a trio to cost that much. Was it the USD price ?
