Well, I'm one Hiker who enjoys classical music on a fairly regular basis. But this post is about a couple of older rock/pop CD's I dusted off and played in Trifield last night--Fresh Aire II and III on American Gramaphone. I imagine many of you have or have heard these but it was fun listening to them again after a very long while. The sound quality is excellent too.

I have the whole boxed set. II and III are probably the better of the bunch.

Any Isaac Guillory fans out there may want to se this on UTube.

If you missed him, its worth a look to see a proper Guitar player. Sadly passed away too early, you missed a treat.

Enjoy, Chris smile

I received the David Gilmour "Live In Gdansk" (5 Disc) CD/DVD set for Christmas. I have to say that this set is awesome (especially if you go for the 5 disc set).
Not only do you get the concert on two CDs, you also get DVDs containing video footage, jamming sessions and, more importantly, a cool 5.1 (DTS and DD) mix of his On An Island album! I have to say that the DTS mix is so much better than the vanilla Dolby Digital variant. The rest of the set is a great workout for your Trifield setting! grin

Sweet! smile

I didn't think I was much of a Prog Rock fan until I started looking at my collection; Early Genesis, Early Floyd, Earth & Fire and The Moody Blues amongst others. shocked

Which reminds me, I received Days Of Future Passed and In Search Of The Lost Chord by The Moody Blues today on SACD. Fantastic sounding discs! grin

I've been a lot more open minded about music lately and caring much less about the quality of the recording (I always want to play it the best I can but I don't let recording quality get in the way like I used to).

Anyway I've been listening to some coworkers music by just letting my computer random play against our shared library. And ran into this album.

http://www.amazon.com/Danse-Vie-Bea...mp;s=music&qid=1231164527&sr=1-5

My coworker friend said if you like that you should listen to these other albums. At first I thought yuck (my knee jerk reaction to a poor recording almost stopped me from listening further), but I just let it play until this song came on.

Baby And The Gambler & the Happy One-Step

http://www.amazon.com/Home-Music-Sp...mp;s=music&qid=1231164291&sr=8-5

Holly smoke that was good, then this song came on from a differnt album.

Perrodin Two-Step (E Is For Edwards)

http://www.amazon.com/Live-Dance-Sa...mp;s=music&qid=1231164291&sr=8-7

My wife and I enjoy fiddlers at Highland games and local county fairs. It's very hard to capture the atmosphere when a bunch of fiddlers get together and there is nothing quite like it my experience. This album gets pretty close even though it's a crappy recording. You have to focus on the music and the beat. It's great stuff.

Here's an interesting one - recommended for price only as I haven't ripped it yet (for obvious reasons) so haven't had chance to hear it.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Works-Igor-...mp;s=music&qid=1231264987&sr=8-1

The complete works of Igor Stravinsky - 22 CD's for 24 !!!

Bonkers...just had to buy it.

I have just downloaded a copy of Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here (DVD-A, 4.0 24/96). It's a direct port from the original quad mix (allegedly). Sounds very nice, not as nice as DSOTM but still nice. smile

All you blues fans, I recorded "Seasick Steve" Live from the Reading Festival on BBC4, Transfered to DVD and it Looks and sounds great on the 596 in my Trifield based preset for such things. He is the "Real Deal" and I highly recomend this performance.
The Preceeding Documentary is also unmissable.

Cheers Chris smile

P.S. I doubt it will be on Bluray in DD Tru-HD anytime soon............

Just checked out the DVD-A 4.1 multichannel mix of Autobahn by Kraftwerk. Sounds awesome!

I hope you didnt miss the Documentary on BBC 4 "Standing in the shadow of Motown".
The story of "The Funk Brothers", who played all the Music for Motown hits in the 60's.
I recorded this and am so glad I did, the sound is amazing, as they got those of them left alive to play again.
My Panasonic HDD/DVDR really is a great piece of kit, but I transfer to DVD and play on my 596 for optimal sound.
You dont need any high def formats to enjoy this Musical Gem.

Cheers, Chris smile
