A supremely worded description which makes sense now to me. My only follow up questions would be what is a modified clux? how much does it cost? and would it be a better buy than a M HD621 assuming that it is being released soon?

George-

Can we take the answer from Ronnie and post it on the WIKI in any format as you see appropriate? This is a great synopsis of HD audio, at least for the current time.

Ronnie-

Awesome response!!!

"The analogue outputs presumably imply there is on-board decoding capability that can be tapped before the D2A stage? "

That is not a given. There are a number of players out there with analog outputs that either don't have decoding for the high resolution formats or have the decoding but do not use the decoded data to their DACs. In both cases the analog outputs receive core data.

I would also like to hear someone's response to this. Or is this an unknown until someone actually gets a HD621 in their hands.

The HD621 does not have on board decoding. You will need to set your Blu-ray player to output PCM rather than bitstream.

Thanks Ronnie. Totally clear.

I guess we are now at the stage of front end cheap. The mass market appeal of Sky+HD receivers and entry-level Bluray players combined with the difficult of screwing up digital video and audio mean that we must change our view of the price model. Thus Meridian could never compete in the spinner market again unless they do something very special indeed.

Now all I need is that Sony and someone in the UK who can install sfogg's board.

It would be great if the old console hackers reappeared and made a super board for the ps3 with multi digital / optical out.

the stuff they used to do was (ahem...probably illegal but acceptable in an educational sort of way!) quite in depth.

Apologies if this has been posted before but is there a current list of Bluray releases?
