Two days ago I emailed Shawn Fogg that I was purchasing a 568.2MM and was anxious to buy a modified CLUX. Yesterday morning I bought the 568.2MM (which is to replace my existing 568.2 with no MM). Yesterday evening I received a short email from Shawn stating, "I do not have any more CLUXs and will not be getting any more in. Sorry."

So that's it. No more modified CLUX.

It looks like the well written and researched section in the Wiki on HDMI options will have to be deleted except for the HD621 option.

Does anyone else out there have a modified CLUX for sale or can anyone else modify one?

This was quite an audiophile blow to me, coming without any warning. The CLUX threads still burn in my memory.

Will Shawn be offering the Octava?
Will Shawn let you Buy a Clux and send it to him?
Will Shawn let you Buy Clux and his board and have someone install it.

I installed my own and installation was ok, but it turned out to be the first of it's rev and he had to make some changes.

There may be legal reasons as to why this is no longer being supplied.
Reasons Meridian have to comply with and a modified unit does not.
As a DIY solution you can do anything, but a comercial operation, however small may well run into trouble.

Just random thoughts, Cheers, Chris smile

It appears that those modifications are no longer offered by Shawn. I have recently bought a G68 and was planning to use the modified Octava unit with it, but after contacting him by email I found out that Shawn no longer offers the modified Octavas, nor does the modifications to them either. Reading his website, it states that he also no longer modifies any of the Bluray players. The only thing available is that one can buy the board directly from him, but need someone else to install it. As there is no way that I (or I suspect most people) am capable of performing that installation, I think that we are out of luck and have no choice but to wait for Meridian HDMI solution to appear on the market.

Hi Folks,
It appears that Shawn no longer does the modification, but you can buy an Octava and you can buy his 3x SPDIF board. You're just on your own to install the board in the Octava. I'm going to pop open my Octava and see how difficult it looks. If it's too daunting I'm going to look for a local electronics repair place to do the install.
Cheers,
Sam

I find this a rather troubling development...is everything okay with Shawn? has the long arm of copyright law stretched out to him? He's a great contributor here...I hope all's okay with him.

All,

Regarding the availability of the CLUXs I only had a small number of them as I wanted to see how they interacted in the field with various sources and displays. I had several come back due to EDID issues that were out of my hands, they wouldn't have worked stock either. As such I decided not to order any additional units as I didn't want the hassle of having to deal with possible oversea returns, B Stock, supporting a product that I had no control over and so on.

I never sold the Octava and based on the experience with the CLUXs was not planning to.

As far as not offering installation any more that was a tough one. In a nutshell too much else going on and I don't have the time to dedicate to the installations. So after thinking long and hard on it I decide I had to re-prioritize.

Thanks for the update Shawn. I'll update the Wiki.

Seems like a lot of folks are reprioritizing these days smile

Hi Folks,
I will report back after I get the install done and report how it went. One way or another we'll get this thing rolling again.
Cheers,
Sam

Hi Sam,

Well, you can count on one very interested buyer!

I thought the Sony PS3, which is what I have alongwith a Radiance XD, and CLUX worked together without any issues.

@Shawn,

I am very happy with the Octava that you modified for me. And as I did understand from you, with the updated firmware there were no EDID problems in combination with the Radiance and your JVC projector?
