Is anyone using the Wadia iPod dock with their gear and, if so, what has your experience been? Thanks.

I am. Great piece. I have it connected directly into the 2nd input on my DSP 8000s. It has a cleaner, crisper sound than the 808i.2 but the 808 sounds more smooth and relaxing. Both are fantastic and I don't think I would have a problem with a super simple system of one wadia plus a pair of DSP speakers. In fact that is exactly what I am going to do in my office with DSP 3100s.

It is well worth the admission price especially if you already have DSP speakers.

howie

p.s. i rip apple lossless.

Howie, thanks for the info. I do not have DSP speakers, I have a G68 with passive speakers. I was going to hook the Wadia into the G68. I also use apple lossless.

That would work fine! It is a fine piece of equipment for a dirt cheap price smile

Quick question, but how is this any better than using an Apple Aiport Express and taking the digital file directly from your computer, wireless to the AAE, using digital out into a G68 and then into DSP?

Curious whether I really need it.

Chris, I think it is probably just the same, other than any impact that the need to stream the audio to get it to the Airport Express has.

It should be the same.

You are right in that there is a degree of overlap. I use both the airport express and my wadia. The airport express works fine except that sometimes there are hiccups with the transmission, even though i am all wired in, not wireless. Also the computer needs to be on for it to work i believe. Not so the Wadia or even a sonos with a NAS drive since you need to use itunes.

I envisage dragging a pair of DSP 3100s into the garden with a idock for summer party although i guess i could plug in an airport express there as well.

Howie,

Make sure that your AE isn't overriding to wireless. I had my Time Capsule set up for months before realizing that it was still using wireless despite the fact that I had it wired. The speed was much better once I turned Airport off at the iMac.

I picked one of these up, and to be perfectly honest with you, I'm not that impressed with it yet.

I don't find the SQ to be spectular by any stretch of the imagination and all my audio is stored as AAC Lossless.

Ah that is worth checking. So does that mean if my imac has the airport on, it will defer to the wireless communication first?? I use my iPhone as a remote control so sort of need my airport to be on sice the computer is not in the same room as the hi fi.

Any thoughts?
