I would like to calibrate the speakers on my 568 using my spl meter but via the DVD source rather than the test signals from the Meridian unit itself.

Is this possible?

oh also can i chuck any of the hd audio signals into this unit with analogue etc?

What are you trying to acheive with this method?
Calibration in the normal way is all you really need as far as I am aware.

my thinking is that the majority of the audio comes from the ps3 so if i calibrate the sound to the levels which it puts out then it may be closer for movies etc than calibrating via the meridians in built system.

I have no reasoning other than logic which makes me think that way.

If things are setup correctly the built-in calibration is accurate.

But it most certainly is a good idea to check all the way back to the source player. If it is different try to figure why rather than blindly use it instead of the Meridian. If all it correct it should be very close.

Watch out for LFE some calibration discs subtract 20db from LFE and some do not.

To do it just use a disk like Avia or Video Essential. Some movies have a test section too.

If I recall your system should be at 87 when you play them and I think they will come out 75. You can test at a lower volume and work your way up just in case.

What is most critical is they are all the same.

should i set my sub level to 87 within avia so to compensate for the movie adjustment?

It depends on the disk you are using and what DSP mode you are. If I try to remember from memory I'll get it wrong I'm just letting you know to be aware of it. Subs can be tricky to measure accurately too.
