robertw, "Beards and sandles" as I understand it, is a graphic description of the type of person who is so into his Hi-Fi that he lacks all social skills, ie, dress sense and image, how to relate to ordinary people.........
They wear Beards and sandles, probably with socks pulled up to just below the knee.
Ask them about electronics and Voodoo and you have them for life.
