I dont know where to put this but it may be of interest to see what Toshiba are doing now to compete with Bluray.

Just watched the Region B BD of ' Mongol' with Dts - HD and found it visually breathtaking . Basically the first part of a trilogy on the life of Genghis Khan its certainly compelling stuff .

As is 'The Fall' whose release was ( part) sponsored by David Fincher . The story of the making of the film is nearly as intersting as the film itself , shot in between other 'jobs' over a period of 4 years !

The BD of Gandhi is thoroughly worthwhile. For an old film it seems to have come up well. The dialogue is crisp and, though there may not be a lot of intrusive work for your surrounds, the crowd scenes, funeral and massacre are all impressive.

Buy this film and have your belief in humanity restored (even though he does get assassinated).

Eyes Wide Shut is quite a good film to watch over again. I saw it 4 times in 10 years (already) and each was a different experience and some very deep thoughts, with Meridian sound it was mind blowing but you know it already. Same goes for The Nightwatch. I presume Greenaway's Pillow book and all his filmography is very enjoyable viewing. The Belly of an Architect took me a lot of pleasure over multiple viewings for a decade now!

Remember watching Thelma and Louise on a 15" cheapest Tv set with M2 on the philips VHS, good times, had a lot of background noise but the magic was there!

When I watched Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban on DVD for the first time and wanted to comment on something that blew me away.

I have always taken the kids to see these movies at the cinema but when I watched this particular movie on DVD via my primary Meridian system (800V4/861V4 & fours DSP8000's) I heard something I never noticed before watching the movie in the cinema.

Professor McGonagal gave Hermione a Time-Turner which allowed her to go back in time. When she lets Harry in on the secret near the end of the movie and resets the time turner so they can go back in time and save the day, you can actually hear the ticking of the time turner whenever Hermione is on the screen.

I first wondered what that "noise" was while I was watching the movie but then I realised what it was so I got out of my seat and put my ear to the tweeter just to confirm what I thought I was hearing.

It was simply amazing and the most subtle of background sound effects. Certainly a testament to the Meridian components and speakers to pull this out of the DVD and present it as intended.

I wonder if I go back through the movie whether it was there every time the Time Turner was shown/being used as I hadn't really being paying attention ?

Anyway do yourself a favour and if you have this DVD check out the scene on your own Meridian system to see what I mean.

Prisoner of Azkaban is the best Potter film of all IMO. Everything I've seen where Alfonso Cuaron has been involved has been top notch: Prisoner of Azkaban, Children of Men, and the outstanding Pan's Labyrinth (which is one of the best films I've ever seen).

Yes, just try to tell someone what Pan's Labyrinth is actually about. Very deep.

' The Hurt Locker ' on BD is an incredible experience . Really makes you fearful something is going to explode in the living room !

Kathryn Bigelow is a great director for controlling the pacing of a film .

Highly recommended , if a touch expensive
