"I wonder if since the RS-1 is a projector only (and has no support at all for audio) is part of the reason the clux has issues. Where if it's connected to say a plasma that can do audio in can modify the audio part of the EDID."

Could be. I sent Cypress details about the problem with the RS-1/HD1 so I will see what they say about it.

"I tried Tosh XA1 --> CLUX --> RS1 and it appeared to work... Something to do with my 1.7c CLUX firmware?"

Did you know if you were getting multi-channel from the XA1 or just 2 channel?

Might be firmware related in the CLUX or even in the source/sink. I couldn't get any audio at all with the A35 but one guy was getting only 2 channel with A35/RS1.

EDID can be so much 'fun.'

I can confirm that. The CLUX doesn't want to work with the HDFury. I even tried changing the HDFury's EDID to no avail.

I'm going to order a HDFury2 and try it with that. The HDFury2 should work since it's HDMI rather than DVI.

Just checking in to let everyone know that the HDFury2 plays nice with the CLUX.

So, here's my setup: LG BH200 -> CLUX11SA -> HDFury2

I'm watching "Casino Royale" on Blu-ray as I type this. It sounds awesome.

I finally found a use for all my DSP33s.

I don't think so. Should be no problem at all with the G61.

I reported a while back that I may have had a glitch when playing a DVD-A via my Oppo 980 and CLUX. Happy to report that last night I played the DSOTM DVD-A with no problems whatsoever. I was in quadraphonic heaven...

Normally "HD" players (that support lossless audio, no compression) only allow analog output. To protect making high quality digital copies.

In the Meridian world, that's bad, because they convert everything back to digital and later back to analog. For everyconversion you lose a little quality.

Then came HDMI which can transmit HD sound digitally and securely.

Today many midfi receivers can receive "HD" player's lossless audio digitally over HDMI.

Meridian could not quicky adopt this because of their digital speakers (which support encryption) probably were not immediately approved. And Meridian felt HDMI was not stable. They are due out for anouncement come CES (we hope) for a Meridian style solution.

Players with analog output could always be modified to tap the digital going to the DACs.

The Clux is a box that sits on the HDMI and receives HD digital audio securely and outputs analog just like a player can. Very popular for PS3's which don't and cannot have 6 channels of analog out like many players can.

Like a player the Clux can be modified to tap the digital going to the DACs.

Connect that to a Meridian processor (same way you connect Meridian DVDA player). And you remove 2 analog converions and access to lossless audio.

Bottom line is higher quality sound.

OK, 4x SPDIF CLUX on its way (thank you, Shawn). Yes I do know that only three of the S/PDIFs will work.

Now, can anyone help me on the cable? I'm presuming that the issue relating to 75 ohm connectors was more of an issue for the 3.5mm plugs that were previously thought to be the only way to get the thing to work. (Here speaks a man with a cellar full of "wrong" cables...)(Shawn did make a suggestion, but I can't get hold of his email from work)?

Do any of these fit the bill? For future proofing ought one get the RGBHV to VGA cable, and if so what colours are which channels, and which colours can I ignore?

Many thanks,

dpstjp
