Hi Doody,

maybe, but the channels don't have to be that different from now if the marketing and product do the hard work e.g. Add a little direct web sale and if the price and product are right it could be an earner.

Look at the fact that you can buy a SB direct from Logitech. If the product had a USP then it might hit a tipping point.....client with apodizing filters maybe. The hi-end version streams legally ripped MHR/MLP files for the hifi nerds (like us).

Just thoughts of course but if times were tough it's better than sitting on hands (if I were at HQ)

I would think even at the sonos or transporter price point they could do quite well. But they know they need added value and I'm not sure if just their name and MHR is quite enough to get the volume they need to make it a win.

Look how many folks are aleady trying to find a cheaper solution than the HDMI Box.

Doody,
I think Jag has been seriously damaged by Ford and by their own brand managers. I don't know if they deserve the outcome that seems most likely but it does seem like they are in a death spiral. That said I think the new XF is very well done.

Funny Nick.

If you've got money and are feeling the pinch (aw, didn't quite make a million last year), a bit of retail therapy does wonders for the self esteem. Maybe skip a new Ferrari, but a few pennies on a Meridian system...what the hell.

Whatever the current economic climate there's always a new market to be found, China being the obvious target. Trouble is they'll probably nick the technology and resell at a quarter of the price.

Talking about cars and hifi, nowadays several manufacturers explore the boundaries of the market by integrating each others core business: Lexus & Levinson, Volvo & Dynaudio, Jag & B&W, Audi & B&O.

Having the F80 partnership already with Ferrari, wouldn`t it be an opportunity to fully integrate M-systems inside a Ferrari?

If you have the cash left, would you buy a Ferrari with DSP surround system?

Or how about a DSP system for normal cars which make them sound like Ferraris laugh

Back on the car analogies, I have just seen on the Aston Martin web forum that AM are considering the strategy of going further upmarket, increasing prices and cutting volume.

The logic is:

- more exclusivity
- higher margins
- ultra high end customers still have cash
- distance yourself from the competition (Porsche)

Should Meridian consider this or is this a bad idea?

"B&O to cut 300 jobs"

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7682398.stm

The implication in this BBC news article is that B&O are heading further upmarket. Mind you, the 10k price of a system which is quoted strikes me as being the current norm for a 'proper' B&O system, surely?

Cheers

George
