Next month or in our lifetime? I'm sure glad you're not steering the ship; we might never make it ashore from the stormy seas.

I'm not privy to either their projections or their financial statements. I also do not know how elastic their fixed and variable expense are. Without such information, I'm not in a position to judge their current financial health or their prospects for the near or long term. I'd rather be ignorant and optimistic than ignorant and pessimistic.

If they won't not make it, then it's a good thing for all of us. I'll take your slip of the pen as repressed optimism!

Does anyone have any public or inside information they would like to share with the group about Meridian's financial heath so we could have some rational discussion about Meridian's future. If not, then instead of predicting the end, I'll remain optimistic. CES should shed some light and I hope (I know hope is not money) that we will be pleasantly surprised by what they have to offer.

If it all goes tits up we should form a cooperative and back Dave Hall in a service company venture.

Perhaps we should all go and buy an F80i Dock or that mini ADC they do, as a show of support, with the tax cuts G Brown is going to give usin the uk.

Cheers, Chris smile

It's sad news when any cutbacks are announced in any company.

I'm not sure what the scoop is as (honestly) I haven't heard a peep in a while.

"Half expected growth" is interesting -- any growth right now is pretty extraordinary in my opinion. But I'm not a finance guy so don't count my opinion as expert on this topic.

IMO, the worse is yet to come in the UK economy. A lot of companies will wait until after Christmas to make people redundant.

One better point is that the weakening pound will make Meridian gear lower in cost in the USA. Latest prediction is $1.46 by end of 1Q2009.

You may remember last year when Linn were in a similar position, with redundancies announced and predictions of the company's imminent demise.

Moreover it wasn't difficult to source Linn equipment at bargain basement prices, as Linn sought to clear their inventory - all of which fueled further speculation that the company would vanish.

However, a year on and Linn still exist - and have introduced a new DAB tuner, a new range of switch-mode power amplifiers, new pre-amplifiers, a range of network-based streamers, and updated existing products.

So lets be positive that Meridian will similarly brave the current stormy waters of the economy. It would a very sad day indeed if such a unique company decided to call time.
